Yes, a central Stu or a more progressive JWP (though Stu is more a run through the lines, than a pass through them). Gaston?!
Romain - Salisu - Vesty replacement - KWP Could be a really nice defence that. I wonder if having two more attacking fullbacks will lead to a tactical shift, wether it be playing an out-and-out DM to drop back and hold, or play 3 CBs.
For either of those we would need another player on top of any departures - either a new central defender (so two of Vestergaard goes) or another out and out DM as we only have one
The most promising part is that it indeed was done at the start of the window. It needed to be but as things tick into august you start to get the idea that some clubs might try and save a few weeks wages by delaying the signing A nonsense approach of course but it does seem to happen
I'm a proponent of the out-and-out DM. No disrespect to the long shot acumen of Romeu, but when he's playing in midfield I'd rather have him being Wanyama sitting deep as a screen against counters, rather than getting high up the pitch.
https://www.southamptonfc.com/news/...perraud-southampton-football-club-2-july-2021 He is very 'appy!
Most important signing of our window, in terms of position? Before today we didn't have any left back other than Vokins, who we don't seem to want. You'd imagine Perraud will be starting the first game (hopefully Salisu is CB), so it's good he'll have the whole pre-season settling in. Other positions have a little more time, to get up to speed but Perraud needs to be ready for the 14th August.
I like Bednarek, but I think he’s regressed this year. He can be a great player but he doesn’t fill me with confidence anymore.
I think he struggled to carry the rest of the defence when KWP was injured but with KWP, Salisu and Perraud alongside him, I am expecting great things. He is the last line of defence in a good back four. A great blocker.
Just watch Perraud’s first interview. All in English and when asked about what he knows about Southampton he answered that he knows there’s been historic players like Kevin Keegan and Peter Shilton, as well as academy products like Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott. He then went on to say he knows we’ve won the FA Cup and he thinks it was won in 1976. Good Wikipedia research on the way over, Romain! (In all seriousness it is quite nice to see a player who has actually bothered to look into the history of the club they’re joining)
Not sure exactly what constitutes a ‘successful’ dribble, but Bertrand made just 1 every 10 games essentially. That’s depressing if accurate.
Agree. I can`t say that any of those stats are surprising though. I wonder what KWP`s `dribble` success rate is ? Anyway, sounds like a great signing, which addresses the position that most needed addressing in the team. Welcome Romain !
What's more depressing is the responses to the Saints Facebook post about it, which are essentially "Never heard of him". People have a world of information at their fingertips these days, and yet choose idiocy.
It’s like some fans never understand the reality and context of what size club we are, finances, and how we need to recruit. Just ignorance really. I personally like unearthing gems, of which I hope Perraud is!
