Perth 1.55 Steel Yard Oliver Greenall has his yard in fine form and you don't see him sending runners to Perth very often (4 placed in handicap hurdles from 9 runs over the last 5 seasons) . After its handicap hurdle debut last time out (pulled up) trainer's rep said the gelding was unsuited by the soft going and would prefer a quicker surface. Today on quicker going and with mark down 4lb Steel Yard could run better than odds may suggest
Morning Anyone tried betting on the French trot races? Books always seem to have odds for each meeting, spoke to a mate in France who punts on it and he says its as popular as the horse racing over there....gave me one today for what its worth 2.49 Laval-Gentleman Valiere Each Way @ 17-2 [Skybet]
Watched the race totally bizarre...the above tip was going easily in front down the back straight but then broke into a gallop and was disqualified!
Mr McCann was pretty impressive today. His first couple of runs had shown progression but the form looked as if he still had something to find today. I had made a note of both Triple Time and Nuance on debut but seeing the betting last night I felt the former was way short in a race with previous winners. I had a small bet on Nuance based on the better price and the fact that the 3rd in his previous race won next time. Nuance pulled way too hard early and raced too freely in general but did come with a run. He looked like being second, having initially seen off Triple Time but his earlier keenness caught up and he weakened, allowing Triple Time to outstay him into second. Mr McCann had put the race to bed already though and quickened up off the front to concede 6 lbs and make a mockery of his 22/1 odds in grand style. This was a good step forward for Mr McCann and he looks ready for a step up in grade now. Nuance will need to settle better and both he and Triple Time look capable of winning races. La Pulga was quite disappointing for Roger Charlton, who doesn't seem to winning anything of note this season and his prize money for April, May and June this year has only totalled £76,000, so there isn't much there for Trinkets, Firewater and Ferrero Rocher.
Hey Odddog or anyone else, whose this Osaze Urhoghide that the east end bottlers have signed from Sheff Wed? Is he the next Van Dijk?
