Thomas dislocated his shoulder in an early crash, had it popped back in and completed the stage, It makes me cringe when a crash results in a rider sliding along the road with no protection over their skin.
It was a brutal day, Roglic had some really bad skin damage, but it sounds as if he had also damaged his coccyx, which sitting on a hard saddle would be very painful. There must be a big doubt whether he can continue. G, with a dislocated shoulder, won't be very comfortable either, great credit to him for getting up and continuing.
I suspect the organisers in future will think twice about pitting such narrow finishes in the early prt of the race... GC was blown up yesterday and iff there are withdrawals it already looks like a straight Alaphillipe - Pogacar fight...
I love the Tour.... simply brilliant brilliant stage..... well done Cav'..... away for 4 years!!!..... tough on Brent Van Moer. Commentator nearly in tears... Cavendish in tears...!!!! 31 stage wins in the tour.... 6 years since his last win.... just remarkable...
Wow that was a good finish, got to feel sorry for the guy who'd been leading for so long The way the Peloton swalled him up in the last few hundred meters always amazing Well done to the chap who took the sprint on the line
On a day of national sporting triumph it’s quite appropriate that a British true sporting great has fought his way back through injuries, illness and just the ravages of time to add to the record he already holds for sprint wins in the biggest race in cycling. And in a time of bland media automatons it was refreshing to see just how much it still meant to him and everybody around him. Cap well and truly doffed. Chapeau
I just have. It’s a typical sprinters’ stage that you could fast forward through most of to be honest, but the end is quite emotional. To answer your other question he’s 2nd in the all time stage wins chart, 3 (I think) behind Eddy Merckx.
