... and still aren't tbh. I think they'd pay around what we paid for Grigg but he would only be a back up. Middlesbrough eyeing cut-price move for former Sunderland striker Josh Maja https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....dlesbrough-eyeing-cut-price-move-20912899.amp
I always felt the same Smug. Like Wyke last season, he seemed to have a knack for scoring goals in that half season he played for us, but did precious little else. I appreciate they are paid to score goals, but top forwards offer a lot more for the team. It'll be interesting to see if he sets the Championship alight or whether League One would be more his level.
Selling him and leading to us missing promotion is cast in stone ... ... but I don't recall us being in the top two that much when he was here tbh.
I'd imagine it is a decent move for him. He hasn't shown he is top class by any means. Boro could be a good place to keep developing.
We weren't, but that was mostly because in the first season under Ross, we couldn't keep a clean sheet to save our lives.
I guess we will never know what would have happened if he had stayed... at Boro will he link up with Watmore,? Iirc, Ross wanted Maja to stay... Donald tried to hang onto him cheaply, Maja went.. Donald realised he had messed up...and paid over the odds for Grigg to make up for it.
I agree, just meant his departure didn't automatically cost us promotion ... ... we could've gone up without him.
We should have gone up without him. We would have gone up with him. Probably The defence was our problem that season. Not to mention the manager being terrified of attacking
Only 22. Will be a premier league player again at some point. If boro are after him, we should join the race to sign him.
Yet another example of a young player who was making good steady progress but who had his head turnedby the prospect of instant success at a 'bigger' Club. Had he stayed, I think that his goals would have got us promoted, but I'm sure that his own development would have been better than being chucked into the deep end before he was ready for it.
I think its too soon to say whether his move to Bordeaux was a bad one. He's played fairly regular football in Ligue 1 and then the Premier League, which he probably wouldn't have if he'd stayed with us. If he has another season now which isn't stellar goals-wise, yeah I'd begin to argue that he should have stayed.
Liked the lad when he was here, was on a proper goalscoring streak just like Wyke was last season but will either get back on it at new clubs if there's a move afoot only time will tell.
Maja is the more talented of the two, but looks dis-interested, and this attitude does not augur well for his future imo.
