It's improper to compare the UK to India in this instance, India's average life expectancy is 12 years fewer than ours, meaning we have a far higher percentage of people susceptible to the virus in this country. It's also impossible to accurately estimate infection rates in India as they only counted hospital deaths in official figures. Those who were unfortunate enough to not get admitted to overstretched hospitals died at home, their bodies burned in makeshift crematoriums without any coronavirus tests taking place.

I don't think it's improper but it is difficult to have certainty in the precise numbers - the figures used in the comparison are much higher than those arising from the official sources (raised by a factor of 6) and are based on a reasonable estimate of excess cremations performed compared with pre-covid levels. Variable testing capacity in different countries and different definitions of Covid-19 caused deaths do not allow for any exact comparisons between nations and it is generally accepted by epidemiologists that calculating the number of excess deaths during the pandemic gives the most reliable comparator.
The reason I suggested India was that it is one country where efforts to fight the infection have been clearly badly organised and I do have good contacts there who are currently working in the field. The point I am trying to make is that those of us in the UK should not be quite so smug in our conviction that we have handled the pandemic well in comparison to others - our population adjusted death rate remains at an unacceptably high level for such a well resourced nation.

A significant reason is that Hull has a lower age demographic, so there are a bigger percentage that have only just become eligible.

Average age is 41.2 in Hull and 42.2 across all the East Riding, it doesn't explain such big difference.

If you break it down to the five year age chunks, there are a bigger percentage in the ER that would have been eligible for early jabs, and a bigger percentage in the sub 30 category that have only just become eligible in Hull.

It's common to many urban/rural areas.

Pleased for you, honestly. I wish I was able to get back out to Lanzarote (I try to go once a year), I was lucky to dive there in February 2020. I was in Mallorca in September 2019, diving out of Cala Bona and might be in Malta in late September/October. But now I am stuck dreaming of warm waters!!!

I have had to make do with great vis in the English Channel but 11 degrees!!! I filmed this the other day.

That's a very political source and I don't see why people would register the results of the tests. Unless you needed to prove you'd had a negative test, why would you bother to register a negative test you'd just done for your own peace of mind, or am I missing something?

That is shocking. How many people will have been infected from the 100,00 positive tests missed?
I have just typed and then deleted a rant as it went into politics. I do feel better for doing so!

Because the tests aren't 'just for your peace of mind'
A properly functioning test and trace system is designed to give population level data and intelligence for targeting public health initiatives and resources, as well as obviously highlighting people who need to isolate (when followed up with a PCR test) .
I can see why individuals wouldn't bother registering the tests (I do register mine however) if the organisation leading it hasn't effectively explained to people (which obviously they haven't) the reasons why it is important.

NHS walk-in vaccination sites open up in ‘Grab A Jab’ weekend

Hundreds of walk-in NHS COVID-19 vaccination sites will be operating this weekend with any adult able to turn up and ‘grab a jab’.

Anyone aged 18 or over can turn up at the sites, which include football stadiums, theatres, supermarket car parks and shopping centres, and get vaccinated without needing to book in advance.

The NHS will publicise the sites locally so that people can opt to get jabbed on a trip to the shops or on the way somewhere else.

Second jabs are also available at the walk-ins, if it has been at least eight weeks since the first dose for people aged over 40, and 12 weeks for people aged under 40.
