Portugal barely had enough quality to put Hungary away and went through a period in the 2nd half when it looked possible that Hungary could have grabbed the win. We know a lot of their players because of them plying their trade in the premier league and after watching them today, I don't think we have anything to fear. They've got a strong 12 or 13 after that there's nothing there that should bother us. We have the stronger squad. England are better than a lot of people are giving us credit for. After France, I'd put us there with Italy and Belgium as next best.
It’s a must win game for Germany on Saturday, I think Portugal will have too much for them. A score draw or a Portugal win is my prediction. I’m looking forward to watching it.
We barely beat Croatia and they have lost something like 8 out of their last 10 competitive games . England do have quality individuals, we always have had. But we lack a winning mentality/nasty streak and the ability to come together as a team.
I thought we beat Croatia comfortably. At times during the match we looked very good. Italy are probably peaking too early, I prefer to grow into the tournament and peak at the business end. That was the first time we've won our first game, so another improvement under Southgate. He had us to the world cup semi final and I expect at least the same this tournament. I can't remember another manager in our history who would have started with midfielders from middle of the road premier league teams. I believe he picks players on form and not just from the top 6 and that has given us more of a togetherness. We never had a playing style, neither. He's give us an identity, now. I'm positive about England. There's not a team in this tournament who will see us a comfortable game.
It's a bit late but if anybody wants to join in you're more than welcome You can still get in before tonight's game. Prediction League - The Euros | Page 9 | Not606
Thank god for Super Kev. The best midfielder in the world turned on the style and saved them. Belgium look half the team when he doesn't play and won't progress very far without him .
I agree about Italy. Even though I wouldn't mind at all if they went all the way. I just think they lack that little bit of quality at the business end.
Come on. You didn't fancy England to beat Scotland? You don't have to be on any bandwagon or hype train to expect that to happen. Tonight's result is worse than the defeat to Iceland a few years ago
Nailed my colours to the Italian mast before a ball was kicked but apparently they have peaked too soon My club over country allegiance also had me cheering on Lyndon to get a goal.
Pretty dire stuff wasn't it. It was very stale looking all around really. I think Grealish must start if he's 100% fit. He is direct and can take players out of the game and create something from nothing which can't be said if many others. I watched the game on local TV here and I have to agree with Liam Brady and Damien Duff who commented that many of the England players looked fatigued after a hard season, with a fair few featuring heavily in the major European comps late in the day too. Still, once qualified, it's all to play for. Scotland did well overall, few half chances, but it also seemed like a draw was a big achievement against England when they possibly should have started putting a few long balls in to try mix it up and get the winner they likely need to get out of the group.
Nah mate I'm not having that..A point is better than none. That said, I'm not defending England. Our style of play reflects Southgate's personality....boring and turgid.
I didn't mean fancy them for the whole tournament. I agree that's silly and said myself in earlier posts that first knockout round is best they'd do and questioned if they'd even win the group although I did suggest Croatia as the main threat. I backed Holland pre tournament. I just meant in my above post you must have expected them to beat Scotland tonight surely
Yeh maybe. But Scotland have massive national pride with a lot of PL players. They were always going to raise their game against England.
