NEIL Warnock plans to bolster his squad with up to five new players in the January transfer window.

QPR made 12 signings over the summer, and the Rangers boss wants to strengthen again in the new year as they bid to consolidate their place in the Premier League.

“We're always looking to improve the squad. There will be three, four possibly five new players in January. It's obvious a striker will be one of them.

“We brought six in to improve the squad in seven days and you've got to improve as and when you can.”

That's what he said at the end of last season and we made some panic signings in the final week of the window. Nothing to suggest it won't happen again. If we're not willing to pay top dollar, why would other clubs let their players go? He's saying all this to a) keep us quiet and b) to deflect the attention away from his coaching. Starting to bug me just a little bit....the 'we should expect to get walloped because we have shxt squad' attitude doesn't wash down well with me. Surviving in this league is about punching above our weight, like other clubs have done in the past and some are doing now. Sort it out Neil.

The difference now is that the signings will be targeted earlier in the window, it wasn't his fault the Goons wouldn't spend. What's happened to those who said "I'll be happy with 17th place"? It's gonna be a long hard season and the real gulf in class will become evident in the next three games...

Warnock is going to have to get more out of the players he has than yesterday's lacklustre display. Lets stop with the excuses, it is getting tiresome.

Not sure who would be willing to join us based on current form. Also not sure who with ideas of their own would want to play in a team with Barton.

Hope we pick up some young and very hungry for PL football talented guys.
Striker, Midfielder and certainly a no nonsense CB.

He making it up as he goes along no excuse yesterday there was a lack of movement the times yesterday when a easy ball was on were many yet time and time again there was a hoof Do these players think they are all beckhams

It was very disjointed and bringing in another five will **** it up even more

This is what happens when you fiddle with sometime that wasn't broken ... The team spirit he has let it slip through his fingers maybe

We need to play the QPR way again and sooner than later

I find it really encouraging that he is looking at bringing in a few new faces in January, and particularly that he is thinking about it now. We all know how disappointing the previous lot were at providing Warnock with support in the transfer market, and so when he finally got some support it was a case of panicking and bringing in what he could. Thinking about it now, gives him a few months to scout players, build a picture of what a player will actually bring to the team, and buy accordingly...not just panic and get what you can.

Given the time he has though, it will be a big test to see how things shape up in January. I'm interested/excited/curious about who comes in (maybe who goes out as well) and what our line up will look like on the 1st February against Villa.

I think a new back four and a striker. Job done.

We don't need a new back four but we do need two decent defenders (one left sided) that can cover more than one position a striker and a pacy utility player that can fill the gap after Adel leaves. IMO

IMO we need to keep Adel or, if not, replace him with someone with something like his creativity. We need a new striker of course, a very good CB, plus a LB as cover for Traore.

There'll be plenty available better than what we've got.
    Bassong for example.

QPR will spend in January, promises Fernandes

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes is proud of the progress being made at the club and promised to back manager Neil Warnock in the January transfer window.

The Malaysian business tycoon's takeover of the club in late August provided the financial clout for Warnock to sign six new players in the last week of trading.

The majority of those featured in yesterday's 1-1 draw with Blackburn, where Christopher Samba's towering header denied the Rs a first home victory after Heidar Helguson cross-shot broke the deadlock.

QPR 1-1 Blackburn: Sunday Mirror match report

Fernandes was at Loftus Road for the match and, while frustrated by the result, believes the signs are promising.

"It was a bit disappointing but this is all part of building," he said. "We have had a bit of bad luck at home.

"We outplayed Newcastle and, if you look at the league table, they are fourth and we played them off the park.

"We played well against Villa and I thought there could have been a penalty there that should have gone our way, but that's football.

"But to be 10th at this stage of the season is something to be proud of ahead of three tough games."

After the likes of Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand arrived at Loftus Road, Fernandes held talks with Warnock on Thursday about the next batch of potential signings.

The Rs boss indicated that as many as five new players could arrive in the next transfer window and Fernandes has promised to back the manager.

"I don't know about five players but it depends what comes along," he said. "We have some interesting options.

"We may end up with five players but we definitely have to strengthen the squad. There are no two ways about it.

"There are certain areas we need to look at, probably up front we could do with a little more depth.

"But Helguson played well today and it is good to have [Jamie] Mackie back from injury so hopefully we can keep everyone fit, which is one of our problems.

"We have had a bit of disruption since the Newcastle game so certainly we'll be looking at new players."

Many were surprised by the news that both Helguson and Mackie were handed starting berths against Rovers, although visitors of QPR web forums were already aware of the news.

As well as the squad changes, DJ Campbell's metatarsal injury was leaked by a forum member, who received the full force of Warnock's wrath in the post-match press conference.

The Rs boss showed a piece of paper with the individual's email address on it, which was subsequently published on the club's official website.

The decision to publish personal information has been derided on social networks by fans, leading to calls for the address to be removed.

Blackburn manager Steve Kean was obviously unaware of the leak as he admitted to deploying Jason Lowe in a deep-holding midfield in an attempt to quell talisman Adel Taarabt, who started on the bench.

The Rovers boss' position has come under increasing scrutiny of late and was quick to thank the club's owners, Venky's, for their continued support.

"If you're getting stick and not any backing from your owners then that is not going to be great," Kean said.

"They are very strong people, very strong owners, and they've deflected any type of bad press by being rock solid behind myself and the lads.

"I thought the travelling fans [yesterday] were very good and hopefully we can go and add points to that against Tottenham next time out."

Tony's learned the footy cliches quick - 'but that's football'!!! He gives me hope for the future being not one of scrabbling for survival every year, but not sure which of his overseas contacts will help Warnock unearth some undiscovered gem in January, unless Sebastian Vettel is looking for a game. Not really sold on the idea that there are world beaters playing in the Malaysian/ Singaporean leagues.....
