Once of those instances where it looks a very harsh penalty. But put it elsewhere on the pitch (ie outside of the penalty box), and it would be a FK.

I’m not sure ….. both players had their arms up and it could have been given the other way ……

 

It’s always awful to see a penalty given against Lovren.

It is a foul as catching someone in the face with an arm is reckless play so by the letter of the law it's a penalty.

 

Even though Schick was being equally reckless. Typical ref’s decision, no idea how players actually use their arms to get off the ground.

Lovren had his back to Schick, whereas Schick could see what was happening.

 

Not sure what your point is? An elbow to the face is reckless if accidental or violent conduct if deliberate. Either way it's a foul.

 

And if they both hit each other with their elbows? Yellow card each for reckless play?

 

If a player jumps for a high ball, and another player behind him who he can’t see jumps into him, how is it the first player’s fault if the second player gets hit in the face?

Reckless is an entirely inappropriate word under the circumstances in which that happened.
