Could be on here or on the Coronavirus thread. UEFA are demanding that the U.K. quarantine rules for travellers from red and amber list countries be waved for UEFA and FIFA officials and government officials travelling with teams to matches at Wembley in the knock out phases. That’s about 2,500 people per game. If the U.K. government does not change the rules the games could be switched to Hungary which has no restrictions in travel from the Schengen zone and also has a full capacity stadium. All these people are too important to quarantine for 10 days, obviously. Johnson said to be going to bend the rules for this as he has been told it would help in England getting the 2030 World Cup. Personally I would prefer the rules to be adhered to, given we have just been told there is a significant risk with current levels of infection, all these other countries are in worse shape than us, and Brits need to continue to lock down for another month at least. Let’s see how this pans out.
Sounds like Mother Nature is trying to get involved in the match today, throwing down buckets of rain on the south, replicating a typical Scottish summers day up here and thus levelling the field Perversely, it's bloody glorious up here, hopefully not an omen....
Saw pictures of big fan gatherings in London, not Wembley I dont think, before the game. Not a mask in sight. That surely will spread infection unless they were all vaccinated with effective stuff, and controlled before they got to wherever they were.
Yeah, probably, if they are infected in the first place. Apparently the trains down were packed out with ticketless Jocks. Police have a dispersal order in place to break up groups as they see fit, but a few well organised fan zones would have helped once it was clear that thousands were coming regardless of government advice (Scottish government). Not great timing for a game, Friday night in the big smoke, could get feisty later. Sweden v Slovakia looked the worst game yet, from the bits I saw. Overall most games have had something to offer though, just a shame that the format reduces jeopardy to such low levels.
Soft pen given to Czeck imo. Looked accidental though the Croats elbow was high. Schlick who got a bloody nose winning it put it away well.
Crouchy advertising Paddy Power at 7:45 in the evening, I thought there was some kind of watershed for gambling ads…. Here we go. This should be no contest but naturally I’m very tense.
