going further with aberdudes thread, i know as a kid a had a wee record player, not sure of the first but i know bridge over troubled water and down the dustpipe (status quo) were among the first singles i bought, first album was Living in the Material World by George Harrison.
Hi Musty My first single was " I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher. First Album "With The Beatles" There you are. Showing my age!
The first single I bought was Mr Tambourine Man, (The Byrds) and the first album I actually bought was Rolling Stones No2.........although like everyone in those days I seemed to accquire and lose albums and singles on a regular basis, but those are the first ones I can actually remember buying, although I had singles and albums before them........God knows where they came from, I think my mother still has the old Dansette up in the attic, did they ever come in any other colour but red?
My parents bought a Dansette for Christmas 1963. First 3 records bought to go with it - She Loves You, Beatles, If I Ruled the World, Harry Seccombe and a Gerry and the Pacemakers single, can't remember if it was You'll Never walk Alone, or How Do You Do What You Do To Me. First single I bought was the Beatles, I Wanna Hold Your Hand. First LP, the Kinks, Sunny Afternoon. God I'm an old bu££er.
First Album: The Scream - Siouxsie and the Banshees (1978) First Single: Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie and the Banshees (1978) Those are the first two I remember buying (still got the album)
My first purchase was in December 1973 - I bought a pair of albums - Paranoid & Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, both by Black Sabbath of course! I never bought any singles! Also, it's worth pointing out that I bought them at Buffalo Records - anyone remember them?
First Single: Hong Kong Garden - Siouxsie and the Banshees (1978) - Outstanding Got their greatest hits album on CD. Although short by normal album standards it is immense!
An old girlfriend of mine used to have a Saturday job at Buffalo Records.....no such thing as staff discounts, but she used to get some cracking posters though
First Single I'm the Urban Spaceman - Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band First Album Himself - Gilbert O'Sulivan. I hated Gilbert O'Sulivan but my date at the time loved him, things you'll do for a good snogg !
Buffalo Records? now there's a blast from the past. I only noticed the other week that Spillers have moved (have been moved) from The Hayes, Probably didn't fit in with the Hayes Development Plan. Oldest record shop in the world and they shove it up some poxy arcade DJ: Unless her name was Claire, I would have found someone else
Really can't remember the first single I bought, it may have been Donna Summers Loves Unkind because some bird liked it and I liked her didn't work though First album bought was Status Quos Pile Driver but was given Hendricks' All Along the Watchtower by my mum. She got it as a birthday present but hated it!
Aber, you're absolutley right, I got bugger all outta of it Also remember Spillers and Buffalo with fond memories.
first single (embarrasingly).........me and you and a dog named boo....bought in caerphilly markets' record stall (run by tommy coopers' sister) first album.....alice cooper...love it to death (still sounds as good today as it did then)
