Todays card looks very tough. I've had a few dabbles. 3.05 Arturo Toscanini is overpriced, due to stablemate being the favourite. I thought his Curragh run showed enough to suggest that he should be interesting here. Bred for the trip and if he shows the improvement for it then he could well go close. Amazed some are offering 5 places here. 3.40 Parent's Prayer is again overpriced. The ground is a bit of a worry as I thought it had best form on soft but I expected it to be single figures. If she does go on the ground then double figure odds are very generous. 5:00 Astro King & Cliffs Of Capri. Expect the draw to be vital here. Maydanny is probably the pace angle and those drawn around him should get a nice run into the race. The former I think is almost NAP worthy, whilst Cliffs Of Capri runs very well under these conditions and can run on strongly at the finish again. I have done tricasts with horses drawn around them too. 6:10 BE CAREFUL!! this race is on the round course.
Day 2, another ew Lucky 15 at Ascot for me. 2.30 Desert Dreamer 3.05 Dancing King 5.35 Guilded 6.10 Stunning Beauty Have a good day all, good luck with yours
I’m prepared to give Taipan (3.05 Ascot) one more chance. Jessica Harrington touted him as her Derby horse at the start of the season and he’s had 3 runs in Pattern races so far, so they must think a bit of him. He’s stepping up in trip and first time blinkers applied. I’m also going to keep following the Ardad 2yos this week, disappointing that Tipperary Sunset is out of the Windsor Castle as I thought he had a big chance. I’m going to have a little each way on Beautiful Sunshine (2.30) and Superior Force (5.35). There are other Ardad 2yos running so Sods Law one of those will go in at a big price
I think in the 1.45 at Uttoxeter Phil Healey could run well for each way purposes. She finished a good staying-on fourth novice hurdle at Market Rasen (form been franked) on her penultimate start. 5th of 12 at Worcester on handicap debut (soft ground) not that bad in my opinion. Todays faster going may suit more. Stable had 5 placed runners last 14 days so hopefully can return to the winners enclosure today with this one. The very talented Liam Harrison takes off valuable 5 lb.
It took all of thirty seconds to eliminate most of the Wednesday card for betting purposes. Scratch the two year old races. The Queen’s Vase favourite is too short for my liking (hope The Queen’s horse runs a blinder). Lady Bowthorpe should win the Duchess of Cambridge with a reproduction of her second in the Lockinge but I need some drift in the price. I see that a couple of the others are shortening on OddsChecker, so I might be on by 3:40. The bookmakers have correctly concluded that the feature is a two horse race and priced it accordingly and I hope Love wins impressively. So that leaves the two handicaps, where Timeform have tipped my selection in one! I wonder whether a stands’ side draw will be advantageous on the straight course in the Royal Hunt Cup. After three losers on Day One, I might be saved a packet on Day Two... The problem with looking at Thursday’s card in advance is the weather forecast.
For what its worth here are a few that I have had a little dabble on... 2:30 - Desert Dreamer @ 9/1 3:05 - Law of the Sea @ 16/1 5:00 - Cliffs of Capri @ 40/1 & Layfayette @ 16/1 5:25 - Chipotle @ 25/1 Good luck to all who are playing today...
I've had a go at the scoop 6 today (missed it yesterday didn't realise it was on). Done my usual ew lucky 63/acca with the horses too: 3:05 - Stowell 15/2 3:40 - Agincourt 14/1 4:20 - Love 6/4 5:00 - Haqeeqy 8/1 5:35 - Armor 11/1 6:10 - Stunning Beauty 9/1 Also done an ew single on Cliffs of Capri 100/1 in the 5:00 and a reverse fc with Haqeeqy.
15:05 Ascot - Kemari & Wordsworth (Dutching) (The Group 2 Queen's Vase is a tough one this year. Hoping Kemari will stay the trip, but it is by no means sure, whereas Wordsworth certainly should get the distance easily. Small R/F these two as well.) Good luck today everyone!
These Ascot races don't get any easier. As ever Wesley Ward has a speed machine in the Queen Mary and as ever it would seem that the trainer's runners do better at 5F than at 6F. As ever though, the odds of reward are skinny in a 21 runner field. At 2/1 I couldn't play her and it is a bit disappointing to see supposed deeper thinking industry tipsters putting Twilight Gleaming up as a value selection. With 7 places up for grabs with SkyBet I would rather play each-way at bigger odds. Get Ahead was inexperienced first time out but finished her race well to come through and win. A daughter of Showcasing it helps that she has won her and she can improve and play a part today I feel. 2.30 Ascot Get Ahead 14/1 EW 7 places
15:15 Hamilton - Soller Bay (Has form to run a good race in this event. 7/2 best price at time of writing.) 20:00 Ripon - Mukhayyam (Another who should acquit himself well in this small field. 9/2 best price at time of writing.)
Ruling is a maiden but he ran well last time, looking ready for a step up to this trip. At a price he was each-way material at 14/1 five places. Wordsworth looked short of pace to me last time. 3.05 Ascot Ruling 14/1 EW Five places
Good grief, that's a nice start, honestly didn't expect that. The overall slow pace definitely helped Kemari, no doubt about that.)
I am not sure why the money is being shovelled on Queen Power in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. She was beaten fair and square by LADY BOWTHORPE in the Dahlia Stakes and won last time over ten furlongs. The William Jarvis filly went to Newbury and ran Palace Pier a close second. Both of them have a three pound penalty today, so she is no better off and dropping in trip. This looks a tough ask for Champers Elysees with her Group 1 penalty for winning what was not a great renewal of the Matron Stakes last term. Parent’s Prayer is progressing in the right direction after winning the Princess Elizabeth at the Derby meeting but will this come too soon for her. Amongst the bigger prices, Lavender’s Blue could be interesting fitted with cheekpieces after running third in the Dahlia. She is a Listed and Group 3 winner but she does not seem to win very often.
I think Love is entitled to need her first run and Armory is a decent standard to cash in if last year's Guineas and Oaks heroine is short of her peak. Plenty in Armory's favour here and I have doubled him with Dreamloper. I have been on Dreamloper on both her starts this season and she was given a poor ride on the first occasion. Second time up she was just done out of it on soft ground by the re-opposing Lights On. 1 lb better off today, I think the faster ground wiill suit Dreamloper and she should run well with any luck today. 4.20 Ascot Armory 9/4 6.10 Ascot Dreamloper 4/1 Win double
