Good luck to the lad if he goes. Couldn't blame him for going there to be honest. I would have liked to see him stay as 30 goal strikers are rare and it is clear Johnson knew how to get the best out of him. Still, onwards and upwards.
I think he'll just carry on putting the chances on a plate for Ross Stewart, and I actually think Stewart might have more success, he's got more skill than Charlie imo.
Wyke had a good season but he was a joke in those 2 play-off games. I’ll never forget that ‘miss’ in the first half of the home game.
Makes perfect sense. I mean McGeady can set up anyone… but Wyke can obviously only score if McGeady supplies it
I find the whole Wyke is only good thanks to McGeady baffling. You would think he just stands still and McGeady hits his head at just the right angle for it to deflect into the corner where the keeper has no chance. McGeady is good but not that good. He hits the danger areas and a centre needs to time his run to that area, beat the defenders to it, then direct his header where the keeper cant get to it. Wyke was superb at that after Johnson came in. His movement in the box was fantastic for some of his goals. Whether Stewart or any other striker we sign can do that as well as Wyke remains to be seen, but I will be surprised personally. Doesnt mean they dont bring other attributes Wyke doesnt have of course, but he at least deserves credit for doing that part of his job exceptionally well, well enough for better teams than us thinking he is good enough to be in their squad.
I think he's been coached well by Johnson and the new staff although, if I remember correctly, his good season was already under way before Parkinson left. Either way, something changed this season as previously I thought his anticipation was pretty poor. He should certainly get more credit than he does though.
Won't do it up there i thank him for his goals but he was no Darren bent or SKP, but we need to move fast here we are middle of June still no news if McGeady is staying and we need 2 strikers now Marquis surely and Taylor from Oxford, Clarke-harris would be brilliant but is Kryil going to spend ?.
I dont think he was much different under Parkinson earlier this season, but might be wrong, I am trying hard to forget the football. I thought he was much better under Johnson and that was largely due to the much more attacking play, particularly crossing from higher which Johnson made a big thing of shortly after his arrival, something McGeady does brilliantly. Not many centre forwards can score goals when the balls come into the box from closer to the half way line, the angle suits the defender. 20 in 29 in the league I think is was under Johnson. I am not arguing he is anywhere near our best centre forwards of years gone by. He is far from it and has limitations. Just saying when you play to his strengths he is an asset.
No, you're right. Just looked it up and he had 5 in 15 before Johnson arrived. In this Northern Echo article, Johnson talks about them working on his timing and his runs. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/19140034.lee-johnson-help-get-gremlins-charlie-wykes-head/
I know where your coming from when you watch him play he looks like a bag of ****e, he misses some absolute sitters but you can't take away the goals he scored this season. I'm not bother how they went in or who created them, how many times in the last 20 years have we had a striker that has scored as many goals. Yes I know its league 1 but he is a league 1 striker, however I'm not going to be sad if he leaves because I do honestly believe he's had one of those seasons where it just works and if he was to stay I think he'd probably get somewhere between 10 and 15 next season
There must be two Wolfys ... "What a waste of space that Stewart is. Not sure what LJ was thinking in signing him tbh." "I haven’t read the whole thread, but there’s no way someone has suggested dropping Wyke surely?"
said it many times, his goals were obviously very welcome but he just never had me thinking he was going to score, as stated earlier, if he had to think about it he usually missed and as a target for an out ball he was pretty much useless as he would rather try to get a free kick than jump for the ball, sometimes it was almost laughable. the last few games, when we really needed him (and others i have to admit) to stand up and whack the goals in showed me that we are probably better off without him...good luck to the lad though, i think he will need it.
I must be the only one that thinks Marquis is ****, I’ve honestly never seen him play a good game. I used to drive donny rovers to away games and the only thing I seen him do decent is trash the coach on the way back home
KLD is going to have to spend. Half a squad has gone, and they weren't good enough for promotion. They need replacing with better and that is bound to involve a spend.
