Good news: Duncan Castles claims that PSG are looking to bring in the Conte/Paratici pairing, which pretty much seals the deal for us
conte at juve? ancelotti at milan? and this is if we are defining success as having won the big trophies rather than doing well such as winning cups or coming second.
Not that shocked Gone from Poch to Conte to probably wake up to Scott Parker being appointed Again Levy can say he tried
Sounds a lot like Conte "i need some players to improve the team/squad", Levy "we have some great kids coming through soon"
If it is a Parker/Potter/ etc. There will be all kinds of ripping to ensure that we couldn’t get a proven big name manager. sums up our plight atm.
The only thing that annoys me is the timing. Season ticket renewal final day? It's on. Next day? It's dead. Seems a bit too coincidental. I don't think that we're particularly compatible though, so it's probably best for all concerned. It'll be interesting to see whether we still bring Paratici in now, despite what's being said.
One thing that worries me, is they say he doesn’t fit the profile. The guy is a serial winner and at his managerial peak right now. Short of Pep or Klopp it doesn’t get much better than Conte. I think this failure shows that profit is more important than glory to ENIC (again). Ultimately they want someone who can bring in young players and then sell them on for big money. That’s not how top clubs that win trophies act.
One good thing with conte not joining is that hopefully Skipp will feature strongly next season. Conte would not have used him.
Or, "I really need to sign a bunch of ancient players and Victor Moses". We don't really have a lot of great kids coming through, either!
That's how Ajax and Dortmund act. We can't compete with City, Chelsea, Liverpool or Man Utd by trying to match their spending. People have talked up Leicester a lot and they've done well by signing promising youngsters, in the most part. Massively overspending on wages too, but we can match their outlay there without it hurting us.
I don’t know what Conte was asking for but I doubt it was half a billion etc. Sounds like it fell through because he shows more ambition than the club. Things like ‘no pressure to win trophies’ and working with youngsters rather than buying players? That’s not a good look and tbh it’s pissed me off if true. The club charge top money for fans for everything yet won’t act like a top club when it comes to on the field things.
