Back to Leicester today and a 2YO race where a couple of newcomers from powerful yards perhaps make the market for a go at one with previous form.

Sed Maarib is a son of American Pharoah and he cost 320,000 Euros. Trained by Roger Varian, he is favourite for today's 6F contest. I wouldn't have thought that 6F was necessarily his best distance and he is probably a horse who will do better with time.

Dhabab is a No Nay Never colt out of a Mastercraftsman mare. He was a breeze up buy who cost £200,000. I don't recall Gosden training too many by the sire and the stable are yet to unleash a really exciting youngster this year. Perhaps he will be the one to start the ball rolling but he may be better for today's race.

I thought Neptune Legend was the play here. The owner seems to name all his horses with Legend forming the second half and had Irish Legend entered in the Derby but he was a no-show in his trial before finding his feet with a win in a Handicap.

Neptune Legend is by Invincible Spirit and he was runner up on debut at Nottingham. He was a bit short of room that day and then hung before getting going and coming through to finish second. I thought he showed some promise there and trainer Hugo Palmer has had a few 2YO's who have come forward from their first run this year.

I think that Neptune Legend will set a fairly decent standard to aim at if improving today and the newcomers will need to be pretty smart to win first time out in that scenario.

The newcomers are fighting for favouritism now but I played Neptune Legend in the expectation that he will run well and be involved.

    2.00 Leicester Neptune Legend 4/1

    Brighton 2.00 Apache Jewel

Backed this horse over cd last time out when 3rd. Unlucky at the end

"Midfield, headway and chased leaders over 2f out, ridden and hung left over 1f out, went third inside final furlong, keeping on when badly squeezed out final 110yds, not recover"

Could go well for each way purposes again from an unchanged mark.

Neptune Legend broke well and was in a good position but he folded up very quickly. That has to go down as a big disappointment and he's gone backwards from his first run there.

It was all about the Gosden horse, Dhabab, who was well supported and although a bit on and off the bridle early he came sweeping through to win very cosily. The commentary team mentioned that the trainer does not have many Breeze Up purchases in his yard but judging by this one it may not be the last.

Varian's runner was easy to back, as was the Haggas horse and neither featured to any great extent. Sweeping took second for Archie Watson, while Triple Time made a pleasing debut for Kevin Ryan in third.

Triple Time is a Frankel half brother to Third Realm, who is in Saturday's Derby. You would have thought that today's 6F would have been short enough for him. I would be interested to see him at 7F next time.

I see that there are 2 Henderson’s in the England squad. However, now for the devastating news. Neither of these Henderson’s are OUR Henderson. Therefore, with regret, I must inform you that this summer you won’t be seeing The Lieutenant storming down the wing whilst wearing his shorts. People, try to hide your disappointment stoically.

Meanwhile, is the Board boy on??? I see his mate, Fergal, has been sent a horse by the ‘Devizes crew’. Feather in the old boy’s cap…what, what?!?

It may be that people are afraid to put in a tip and fail. In my case these two days have been very productive, yesterday winners at 12/1 and 6/1 (unlike Sunday which was a bad day when Pistol Whipped was passed right on the line) but I didn't have time to post anything, and today was Flat racing and I only had a 25/1 bet that was second at Tipperary. Surely if I put something tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they will come last but that does not limit me to put them on the forum. I don't want to be a pain and it's better not to saturate people and not to have the same people posting all the time. Or maybe everything is easier and people just don't want to post.

Possibly, I would hope no one has fear of posting. I find it interesting to hear people's thoughts on races, they may not always be right but it can promote our own thought and views on a race and with a little luck, lead us to the winner.

I see one of your old faves, or young fave, I guess, as she is only 5, is out tomorrow at my local track, Pilgrim. Gin On Lime <ok> won easily last time out. Is very short tomorrow and I think it is a better race so a watching brief only.

If I hear anything from inside the ropes there, I'll try get on and post. The Irish races have been still set mainly on quantity rather than quality and it's hard to be enthusiastic about many to be involved betting wise.

Gin On Lime.... the disappointment I had with her last year was amply compensated by Quilixios this year. I didn't have time yesterday to look the races for today, I see her odds now and on those numbers it's impossible to bet her but I'll watch the race with interest and hope she becomes a good chaser.

By the way, yesterday I forgot to mention LordGyllene who posts almost every day and always tries to help.

Nicky the needle would be a right winger wouldn't he?

Yeah, all change at Fergals, they've also got one from the Middleham massive (Park Racing) and our boy is going to be retired from racing.

I know that only the needy and greedy rootle about in Cl.6 sprint handicaps (nothing personal, Nass, but you know which you are). But I wonder if anyone else took an interest in the last at Lingfield (8.20) on Tuesday ? I'd watched Diamond Cottage run a shocker at Bath , and made a mental note that it must be better than that. Today it sat at about 7-1 all day, opened at 6-1 on course, got backed into 5-2 in about five minutes, and finally went off a solid 11-4 favourite. Walked out of the stalls, couldn't go the pace at all for the first two furlongs, eventually cranked up a bit and struggled into fourth past a few tired horses. Credit to Jack Mitchell for eventually waking it up, I suppose, but you do begin to wonder what connections are playing at. Every time this thing is backed at all, it never fulfils expectations, or even looks like doing so.

Quick view would be that, even off 52 or below, it simply doesn't have the speed to go with even mediocre sprinters, and I'd guess that the payday will come - if at all - over a stiffer 7f or so, and maybe on slower ground. But Malcolm Saunders isn't a fool, and I'd be interested to hear any other opinions.
