Yes, in Rugby Union, you have to pass the “3 year” rule - if you’re playing in a country for 3 years, you qualify for the international team. That, to me, is utter bollocks and I’m glad football has it right. Once you play for a country, that’s it. It seriously annoys me that a New Zealander or Saffer can come over here, play for 3 years then gets parachuted into a team. My view is once you’ve played for a country, that’s your allegiance.
