We mustn't forget Burke is a southern lad from the smoke .. so his choice of Luton seems like he wants to be closer to home. Shame really .. I think given his performances for us during the last campaign he more then warranted a continuation on his contract .. at an affordable rate for the club of course .. but it does beg the question if we are allowing him to leave is it purely financial or is it that we already have someone in line to fill his boots. My guess currently is that it is purely a financial move so let's hope our Turkish friend is close to actually owning us and giving the squad and team a financial boost.

would it not make more sense that a potential buyer would want to keep the squad intact that won the league, until he and his advisor's could access it.(that is if there is a buyer)

As usual there’s an awful lot of guessing why what for and the rest but let’s look at the player . In div 1 he looked generally capable and to the most part played well but so did 11 or so others that’s why we went up. But you forget in the championship he got bullied so many times with little upper body strength , but I will forgive his positional issues as the defence was poor altogether . His experience will be missed only because he’s about 3 years older than the others ! He’s not 28 and been round the block .
I honestly believe there are players who are stronger and as able as Burke , it is the strength of our backs that will be tested as much as the canniness of the strikers at that level

I think this will drive wages down to a realistic level as well. Which is not a bad thing.

As Terry has said his deal is unsustainable and not he wants to move back darn sarf it’s safe to say it’s money
And I think you’re been very disparaging about our centre half
He scored five goals this season
    He’s 26
    And had an excellent season
    Clubs will note that
He’s just the type of player I thought we were going for!!!

    H
e really didn’t get bullied so many times at all
If you mean when we imploded after Xmas
Maybe the fact the two centre backs had zero help from the centre mids and McKenzie at full back who was just awful it’s no surprise both him and jordy were all over the place

If it's a financial decisions, then are you really going to believe Luton have offered more then Bristol?

He's done well for us, but I just personally don't think it will be a huge loss to us and the money would be better spent elsewhere

To be honest it could be 50/50. Club say they offered a sustainable contract, knowing player wanted a move South. Both happy. Let’s be honest getting a fee for a reasonably average centre half is going to be difficult.

I was thinking the same thing when I read it.
TBH, I think there’ll be quite a few teams not digging too deep a hole in their pockets. Many because they’re skint, but some because they’re at the tipping point.

Charlie Austin on a free. Not that we’ll be paying the sort of money he’s going to probably want.
I see Max Sheaf has gone too, I thought he was one of our more highly thought of with potential?

Was thinking about the new austerity in football outside the EPL and Reece Burke. Three years ago he left West Ham at a time when a PL reserve player was probably pulling in 20k a week, and he dropped to maybe 12-15k to sign for City.

An equivalent to Reece Burke now would have no hope of getting that sort of money. They will have to take a much bigger hit to find a club. I wonder if this is the market that our transfers team is looking to tap?

But yet neither of those two reasonable players would be first choice with our current squad.
