didn't happen. He was just landing after a header and he blew out the knee cap tendon on the landing. nobody "injured" him. Its not like a short armed angry little imp tried to chop his leg off
Don't shoot the messenger - I just heard that from a few people. But of course, the England camp wouldn't leak anything out and throw Coady under the bus ...
So, unsubstantiated rumours apart, Gomez missed most of this season due to a muscle/tendon injury, correct?
He ruptured the patella tendon which is a horrible injury due to the complexity of the surgery and recovery. Was listening to podcasts with sports physios etc and they mentioned this injury has one of the lowest recovery rates in world sports. Not sure how 'recovery' is defined because it could be anywhere between from being able to walk without pain to being able to play football at the highest level. The physio on the podcast said that the surgery required is like stitching two wagging horsetails together. If the stitching is done too tightly, then it will reduce the amount of mobility of the knee. If not done tight enough, then it will cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Either way, Joe and the club won't know how the surgery went until he's back up and running. But by the looks of it, I think it's gone as well as possible could given he's back training and running. Let's wait and see ...
Yeah, think you mentioned it before. Especially bad for him (and Virgil) is that they're speed merchants. You can never rely on getting your full speed back after tendon injuries, Wish it had been a break - look at Ciise in that he recovered from a bad compound break with no loss of speed whatsoever. Still couldn't control a football though.... I remember smashing kneecaps at 14 in a game at Mersey Rd playing fields in Aigburth. I heard someone yell with pain and thought it was my opponent - then realised it was me. Ended up in Alder Hey getting a cortisone injection into a knee already swollen like a rugby ball. Needle was like an icing cake syringe. In splints for a month. And that was with no ligament damage. But Joe's an athlete with best possible care. I hope.
I'm hoping both stay. Ox is a very useful utility player and home grown of course. And I still think Naby has something to offer
In the end we need to go look at the squads. There can only be 17 non homegrown. Alisson Adrian Konate Matip Van dijk Tsimikas Fabinho Keita Shaqiri Thiago Mane Salah Jota Firmino Origi Minamino Wijnaldum is out. That's 17 names above. Theres room for one more with windy gone so kabak not being signed makes sense Gomez Trent Ox Milner Henderson Davies Phillips Robertson Jones and William's x2 and kelleher are all under 21 This is the full 25 over the age of 21 l. Selling up english players makes little sense as you simply have to have some by the rules. So selling up english players and buying foreign movies zero sense. If/when konate is bought then in effect weve a full squad. This is why if we want to improve we either pay the english add on for a kane or grealish or whoever or we sell up a shaqiri or origi to make room for them. It is also really why grujic is unlikely to be retained as there no room in squad is there.l?
