Would be interesting to know what the average wage in The Championship is excluding the 3 clubs most recently relegated from The Prem who are enjoying parachute payments, and still paying higher salaries irrespective of relegation clauses
Thankfully that's not true. This is from Footbal Finance expert, Kieran Maguire . Although it's still just over £16k a week which is daft please log in to view this image
-> Burke is going to leave because triggering his new deal would cost us £10k a week (Telegraph). Which is a good indication of where we are at the moment, as the average wage in the Championship last season, was just shy of £29k a week Still, at £16k a week, it remains "a good indication of where we are at the moment". I wonder if this average of £16k a week will now start to reduce, or at least stabalise, rather than continue to escalate? Of course, the £16k is only the average. Meaning, there will be an awful lot of players, particularly those just starting out, that will be paid a mere fraction of that amount, so conversely, even after taking out the distorting impact of the relegated PL clubs, there will be a lot of players on more than £16k, and some of those players (not all) will be the higher quality, more experienced ones. We can't even afford £10k. Sensible but sobering?
Perhaps the number of paying members we have left also has a bearing on the level of wages we can pay next season ?
Don’t forget those relegated from the PL over the last couple of years will also still have decent earners that’ll still be pushing up the average wage. Bournemouth only just getting rid of glass Jack this window.
The piece I read mentioned the 10k would be increased probably due to being in the championship so it’s more likely to be north of 10k but more like Beverley than Scotland lol
Ah well, we have to cut our cloth accordingly. Decent larker and I would have liked to have kept him, but he is injury prone and missed a few games this season.
It isn’t a stupid choice, it’s actually quite a sensible suggestion. Ingram will be first choice and rightly so, but it makes sense to have an in form keeper as back up just in case injury strikes. As a free transfer it’s in our range. Good shout that.
Won’t he have left Portsmouth to seek more first team football? Will he be happy to be a backup keeper? I think the club rate Cartwright highly, he’s still a teenager but might get some League Cup action.
I think backup might be a PL keeper on loan. Nathan Trott from West Ham might be that player, if we go down that road.
With what's happened at Peterborough and Lincoln recently, both being able to bring an emergency loan keeper in, promote one of the youngsters and if we have a problem downline, simply recruit one on emergency loan? Is it worth bringing Callum Burton back, just released by Cambridge, ex City. Not seen anything of him so don't know to be honest. The Allams by their own admission won't be spending any big numbers on any player, that said now's the time to spend a £1m plus on a forward if you follow Peterborough's model and buy the right one (the lad at Accie?), the value potentially goes up significantly down line. Also IF, and it's a big IF, a new owner is on the horizon, that's potentially going to influence what The Allams do or don't this transfer window
