He didn’t have to wait, he choose to wait... Charles Kennedy was a RC and so was Ian Duncan Smith. You trying to say both these parties elected leaders who would could not be PM? SRSLY?
I've no idea of the inner workings of either party but there has never been a Catholic PM. It's just a fact. 10% of the UK are Catholics, Catholic schools in the UK are known to be excellent hence folk move home to get into a catchment area. Are you seriously suggesting that there hasn't been a Catholic PM due to a lack of talent? You just have to look at the treatment Ruth Kelly received to understand that Catholics aren't welcome at the seat of Government.
Jacob Rees-Mogg might get the gig one day. He's highly respected within the Tory party. Not sure of any other politicians religion, I've probably voted for one somewhere down the line. I don't think there's any voters in England who wouldn't vote for somebody because they were catholic.
I'm not talking about the average punters, I'm talking about the hierarchy. Yous let a darkie into the Royal Family before a Catholic How do you think that makes me feel
Any Church of England , women or bame , Irish presidents yet ? Or is is just the Anglos that have to have diversity hire leaders ?
We have had 2 female Presidents (Mary Robinson and Mary McAleese) and the aforementioned Anglican President. We have also had a Turkish **** running the shop for a while.
Strange that Succession is being discussed on the plague thread rather than the Monarchy one. Catholics have not been able to succeed to the throne since to 1701 Act of Settlement. There is no impediment to the heir to the throne marrying someone of any other faith, so for example Prince George could marry a Jew or a Muslim. Megz was baptised CofE before she married Harry. I am not sure what (if any) faith she had before (worships dollars) but Harry needs a lot of people to check out for him to be King Henry IX. Members of the Royal family who marry a Catholic or convert to Catholicism automatic lose their place in the line of succession.
Catholics historically have given us a lot of aggro: Bloody Mary, Spanish Armada, Napoleon and Hitler to name a few.
