Aye I was thinking about the idea of making your own luck when I was watching the game and I think essentially it comes down to desire. Teams that want it more appear to be luckier.

'Doesn't command his box' is the keeper equivalent of 'the manager has lost the dressing room' ...

... sounds profound and impossible to prove/disprove ...

... a bit like Feng Shui.

People also missing the fact that Flanagan should have moved out wide to provide an outlet for Burge to pass to...

Not a chance Burge is to blame for that a goalkeeper would never turn his back to play looking for the byline.
Our midfield has no creativity and the ball predictively goes to the wings or floated long. Take charge, drive through the middle and upset the central defenders.

  5. Not at all. It's a huge part of a solid defensive unit to have a keeper who can take command of a situation and come to collect,e.g. a high ball, letting his team mates know that's what he's doing. Burge is far too often stuck on his line.

This all day long - he makes the pass and then stops dead - he should have been busting a gut to make himself available for the return pass if required.

Also as soon as the goal went in him and Wright just turned around and walked back to their mark - its as if they couldnt have given 2 ****s.

Flanagan was ****ing woeful last night - yes Burge isnt anywhere near the standard of what we've had in the last 10 years but at this level he is decent - he's been let down shockingly by the absolute ****show in front of him.

My only hope i can take from it is that I should only have to watch these cretins one last time before a whole new team is brought in.

I'd **** every last one of them off. All to a man ****e last night - and i also include Johnson in that - thinks he far cleverer than he actually is.

Professional footballers have to make important decisions within seconds, that’s what sets them apart from amateur players.

Which is exactly what burge is, amateur.

He's also made some right howlers during the other game and cost us in at least three =9 points

This is our biggest problem. Our midfield also lacks pace and a cutting edge, either with a pass or a run at the defence. Too many passes back or sideways, they take the safe option every time, so create nothing. None of our midfield make runs beyond our strikers, they just run around the centre of the pitch and play everything in front of the opposition defence.

They are not helped by our immobile strikers who are too easy to mark. They need to create space for the ball to be played into.

The goalkeeping position is the least of our worries imo.

The keeper is awful, he better not be with us next season, unless he is 3rd choice
Cannot get my head around why we did not replace him in the last window

George Long is being released by us, very good but lost his place and doesn’t want to renew his contract. Easily a solid League One/Lower Championship keeper. He’d be a great option for you on a free transfer.

Good luck in the return leg, it’ll be tight but it’s not impossible (no matter how much of a pessimist you are!)

And he’s easily made saves gaining us more than that. And a cup win. But only the negative matters

Have to say I think having O’Nien in an advanced position will give us some someone who will do that! We have no one at the minute

always amazes me that the opposition can pick the ball up from their own box and run all the way to our box with complete ease, think the last time we did it (the only time?) was when gooch ran at them and scored, or they manage to pass it out wide and forwards, yet we always, always struggle to find a forward pass even though we can see 'free' players in decent positions, yet the only option our midfield tend to see is a sideways or backwards pass resulting in a hoof upfield.

the team have reverted to far too many schoolboy errors, sloppy passing, waiting for the ball to come to them, not being able to find a team mate, leaving big holes in the middle and in defence...all simple to correct yet they seem incapable of changing, a good portion of goals against us come from our own mistakes and not any great tactics from the opposition.

He has been caught in two minds on multiple occasions which actually causes problems across the whole of the defence.. Burge may not to have been at fault to Flanagans short back pass but he reacted too slowly to prevent what happened, happened. Its not just this last game, Burge has been indecisvie in all of the games since we signed him. Anyone recall the O'Nien own goal?

Same. I'd like to have a look at Bursik in on loan as well tho. Never like loan signings usually but as a goalkeeper its slightly different as they're more easily changeable year on year.

  18. Yep. I think this has been a major achilles heal in our season. Although Burge has made some good stops, sometimes excellent stops, his indecisiveness, when combined with a largely makeshift back line, and neither having any confidence in each other,is,in my view,a key reason we find ourselves where we are.

He didn’t look great to me the last couple games I watched him in. There’s a reason why they have released him

I read their forum and alot of the fans think he's been treat harshly and think he should have been given another year.
Im guessing he was released because hes 36 now. Id still have him for a season, even if its as a number 2 to another new keeper.
