Yes and the shot goes though Grant's legs and then looks like there is a deflection probably off Wright as their player doesn't seem to claim it. Without the view from the other angle it's not clear if there is a deflection but still, it's close enough to Burge and he should really stop it from going in. I'm no fan of Burge but he has been fine until the last few games. I'd be happy to try Patterson though. Especially if we are safely in the play-off positions.
Patterson concedes an average of 2 goals per game for the u23 team, he’s kept 5 clean sheets in 25 games and you want to play him in the playoffs?
yep, once again we conceded because of a mistake by one of our own... don't really want to revert to the 'typical' tag but it certainly seems across the past few seasons when we feck up we are punished (probably where most of the goals against come from) yet we rarely if ever seem to capitalise on mistakes made against us. as i have already said, i am loathe to throw blame on burge as we have not been able to see what happened to the ball on the way but i do feel he was initially in a good position to stop it.
He's also had to make the third lowest amount of saves in the league, which suggests the credit for our clean sheets is due in large part to the defence rather than heroics from the keeper. No coincidence that when the defence has been shaky in the last few games the keeping criticism has come back. Good shot stopper as you say and I wouldn't blame him for the goal yesterday either. These defensive injuries are shafting us unfortunately.
Burge rarely catches cleanly. He often appears caught out with how hard shots are and we've conceded a lot of goals from him dropping or palming shots. I agree that the defence has stopped shots getting to which has inflated 'his' clean sheets. Not a good keeper, hope we can get a better one in
We’ll definitely get a better keeper regardless of what league we’re playing in but Burge isn’t as bad as he’s made out to be, not compared to other keepers at this level.
Burge is the best keeper we have so no point taking a risk at this point, he’s had a blip in what has been an otherwise good 4 months for him.
We’ll get better but it’ll cost us, we just didn’t have the spending power at the beginning of the season.
I think we can get better, but the worrying thing is I think Johnson actually rates Burge. Can see him starting in goal for us next season regardless of what league we are in.
I agree with that. I don't think any of our players are as bad as some folk make out tbh, don't get to be third in the table by having a **** team imo.
it was a dreadful goal to give away, but IMO, without the camera behind the goal, you cannot make out how the deflection (or possible double deflection) caught him out. It was very poor play by Leadbitter, to almost pass the ball to the Blackpool player and then not closing down the goal scorer. Maybe point fingers at a couple of other players as well, but essentially crap defending, with possibly a touch (excuse the pun) of bad luck thrown in. You can see the players glaring across to the left side of the penalty area at the culprits. A crap week, but let’s see what happens on Tuesday. KTF
I’ve said for months Leadbitter offers us nothing. The amount of times he attempted the diagonal long ball yesterday which fell to Blackpool players was ridiculous. Winchester is a much better player imo and give us a lot more (although he was ****e last week)
I very much doubt it, there will be a lot of new players brought in , a keeper will be one of the first
I thought that in January if I’m honest. I suppose one positive is he’s out of contract in January, so there’s absolutely no reason for us to offer him a new deal.
Another ridiculous mistake today which has cost dearly. If we signed a keeper in January I think automatics was a possibility. We are in the playoffs because of him, now we are set to spend a further season in league 1 because of him.
How come most of us have seen this really big problem for ages but the club have not ? A new keeper was an absolute priority in January
