One thing I've said for a while, beware the players which Dortmund are willing to sell Case in point, I thought Mkhitaryan was an absolute steal when Man Utd signed him and thought Dortmund were mad to sell someone with a consistent goals return from midfield - instead Dortmund pocketed £30m+ for the Armenian Clint Dempsey and bought Ousmane Dembele for £6m
If we’re to believe the rumours about him asking to leave then part of those rumours are that he doesn’t want to move abroad, so hypothetically yes. In reality though if it’s his only way out and he’s truly set on leaving at any cost then he’ll take it I think. I also think Real would be worried about cultural fit, Harry is like Bale in so far as he’s not a ‘galactico personality’ and I don’t think the celebrity lifestyle that Real players are expected to embrace suits him at all. I think they’re more focused on Mbappe or Haaland if they’re going to break the bank in the near future tbh.
I don't think that they'd move for him because Benzema's still doing a good job for him and his replacement would have to be substantially younger. Mbappe coming into the last year of his contract is probably a massive influence on their thinking, too. The two of them could probably play in the same side without any issues.
And this is why I think City are most likely. Aguero is off and Jesus has never convinced Pep. Either they get in an auction with other mega clubs for Mbappe or Haaland or just pay whatever extortionate price Levy wants for Kane and basically guarantee the league for the next few years. If they want him then City will find a way to get the money together and match Levy’s figure. Then it’s just down to how stubborn Levy and Kane are, and whether their relationship deteriorates to the point where Kane’s position at the club is untenable.
I can see Mbappe going to Real and Haaland joining City, which will leave Utd trying to be snide and disruptive, which is where I think this is coming from. PSG might try to chip in if Mbappe does go and I guess Pochettino could have some influence, but I don't think it's a great fit. Dortmund picking up Jovic or Silva from Frankfurt wouldn't surprise me, either.
Agreed. I think City are the only reasonable destination given the push and pull factors in force here and if they take Haaland then it’s all moot. I agree with you on PSG I don’t think it’s a good fit and ultimately Kane wants to win the PL or would probably settle for La Liga. The French league won’t have the same appeal if he’s really gunning for the ‘biggest trophies’.
If you plot our average league position over 3 or more rolling seasons it has a pretty uniform upward slope between 2005 and 2016 and then gradually flattens. We essentially managed to catch the Sky 4 but not pass them. You will be hard pressed for evidence that any particular decision was a disaster with that outcome. Of course it could have been better if we had done what Man City did.
There's still some noticeable backward steps in that time, and the fact that two of them coincide with DoFs messing up horifically can't be ignored
They might be noticeable but I doubt they are significant. Given what we sold the others for we effectively got Lamela, Eriksen and £40m for Bale which isn't exactly a disaster.
On the other hand, consider the players we lost Poch has said we let Siggy leave to balance the wage bill, which became grossly inflated with what we were paying Soldado and Paulinho, on top of other high earners like Adebayor and Holtby and players who we didn't need like Chadli and Chiriches Obviously the fact we were reportedly paying Holtby £65k a week predates Baldini, but he ignored his brief and left our squad bloated in some areas while lacking depth in others which took a good couple of seasons to fix
This is 100% all at Levy and ENIC`s door, we have the best centre forward in the world and should be building a team around him to win the PL. Instead we bring in dross like Doherty etc and retain dross like Sissoko etc. Levy has been selling our players a dream for years, without ever actually having the intention of fulfilling it.
Whilst Utd have a number of weaknesses- not least a quality, speedy centre back to play alongside Maguire- a talisman who gets decisive goals and turns those costly draws into wins could make a huge difference. Kane could be another Cantona for Utd. And it’s most Utd fans’ idea of being progressive to add goals rather than shore up the defence.
For all the talk of a move though, there are a lot of reasons why Kane won’t move: 1. Who has the cash in COVID times to buy him? 2. Levy doesn’t have to sell him and his valuation will be unrealistically high in the current market. 3. Kane isn’t agitating for a move; he is loyal to Spurs and isn’t going to sit in the stands in protest biding his time. 4. As good as he is, he isn’t the modern type of player who clubs might be prepared to spend big money on. The profile of a forward player who might command the top transfer fee would be younger, quicker and more versatile.
IF kane has said this and has got his people to leak it then in my eyes he is no better than Berbatov and Modric (and to a lesser extent Bale). It simply ain't OK to do this when ; 1. We still have an miniscule chance of CL football next season (until Chelsea win tonight!) 2. We have a slight chance of come 5th ot 6th so qualifying for the EL. 3. We have our first home game with fans tomorrow night. He could have waited til Sunday night. If he goes he goes. But tbh I find it rich that he wants to "win trophies" when he failed to turn up in 3 finals for us. I personally don't believe anyone deserves trophies but do believe fans deserve respect and lots of Spurs players, Chairman, manager and owners have shown no respect to us over the past 18 months. If the club think that fans will be happily paying a minimum of £50 to watch Villa, Newcastle, Palace, Everton, Southampton Leeds and £40 to watch Norwich, Watford and Brighton and be served up dross then they will be in for a huge shock. This is a kind of make or break 3 months for the club and after the crap decisions in recent times I suspect it'll be break.
1. United owners Glaziers will find the money to appease fans. 2. City would meet it if they want him. 3. he has been loyal, but perhaps something has happened to change this. 4. he is the best in the PL by a mile, and would grace any team in the world. IMO the only potentially available strikers this summer are Kane and Haaland, as Mbappe and Neymar seem to be staying at PSG, so whoever doesn't get Haaland will go for Kane.
