That same manager could equally be described as a guy who took a team in Sweden from the 4th tier of the domestic league to the top flight in 4 seasons, the first time they had ever been in the top flight, he then got them top 10 finishes and won the cup,. That took them into Europe for the first time and he got them out of the Europa league group stages where they were knocked out by the goons on aggregate though they did win at the Emirates. His football in Sweden, at Swansea and at Brighton has been described as pleasing on the eye and he is a coach who develops players on and off of the field. You make it sound as though keeping teams like Brighton in the premier league is easy!
Dan’s generally only second to Ally Gold when it comes to Spurs news. Many of us said that we felt Jose’s appointment was a last ditch effort and that it would give us another season of Kane (and maybe Son). I can fully believe what Dan’s saying here, I think Kane may feel there was a gentleman’s agreement with Levy last summer, though if there’s one hope for us to hold onto, it’s knowing a gentleman’s agreement with Levy means absolutely nothing, lol.
Exactly and I think that’s the one thing that provides a bit of hope for Kane staying. You can just see it now, Kane walks into Levy’s office after the Leicester game and the convo will go something like: Kane: Alright boss, about that agreement we had last summer. Levy: Agreement? Have you got it in writing? Kane: No but I - Levy: Unluckyyyyy.
"Should've asked Luka Modric about 'gentleman's agreements', Harry" ...oh wait a minute, have I just pointed out that most talk of "gentleman's agreements" is complete bollocks? We heard all about the one Modric had with us when Chelsea were lowballing us, there was definitely talk about Mahrez having one with Leicester, and there was definitely talk of one about Rodgers not pilfering Swansea's players when he moved to Saltypool And what happened in each case? * Modric stayed, before heading to Los Ladrones for considerably more than the Chavs offered us the next summer * Mahrez stayed, before heading to The Sheikh Mansour Team a year after the stories of him having an agreement to leave * Rodgers signed Joe Allen within a couple of months of taking the Liverpool job
This is the biggest issue. It could be a car crash in terms of reinvestment. it took us 7 or so years to replace Bale… with Bale.
exactly what I thought. I imagine Sonny will also be seriously considering his options. Lord help us if we lose him too!
That’s basically my viewpoint too. Never felt such disdain for most of my own players as I do these lot.
I'm not normally ruthless but in all seriousness, none of them are going to help us win cups etc. We could "carry" one or two of them in a team of but the problem is, barring Son and Kane, they all fit into the category of being "carried" by the wider team. I think Lloris is also the exception but needs a good defence in front of him.
Yeah I’ve said before I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a Spurs squad before and just been like “eurgh”. Kane is world class. Son is very, very good. Lloris was world class but I’d say is now solid. Hojbjerg and Reguilon are good players despite suffering dips. We’ve got some promising young players to look forward too as well. The rest? Get in the ****ing bin.
Any talk of a gentleman's agreement should be thrown out the window in the current circumstances. Force majeure. If someone gets pissed off about it following a global pandemic that's prevented fans from attending any matches and tanked the game's economy, then they're being irrational.
Not if the agreement was last summer when the pandemic had already started Let’s be honest here, if Kane wants to go then he will go. The club can get a decent price for him but history shows they always leave when they feel like they want to.
It doesn't make sense for the agreement to be from last summer, as Kane was supposed to be Mourinho's biggest supporter at the club. Why would he be asking to leave when we put the manager that he rated in place and supported him financially in the market? Even if it was, I don't think that anyone can expect something like that to hold up. The circumstances were unforeseeable. Nobody's going to pay what he's worth at the moment, so a transfer should be off the table. Offer him a new deal and leave it at that.
I think it makes sense that last summer he would say he would want to leave if Spurs didn’t get top 4 or win a trophy. Kane seems fiercely ambitious and wants to be playing in the CL on a regular basis. That isn’t happening with Spurs until at least August 2022 and he will be 29 by then. A footballer’s career is short.
Gooner in peace (for once) if Kane doesn’t want to go he needs to speak up and say so, the story has been around since last night and won’t go away unless he actually comes out and denies it. the silence from Kane seems to imply he does want to go. the timing of the leak is odd though, is it to alert clubs that he could be available so that they don’t pursue other targets. Would Levy take £100m ?
