Best keeper in the league by a mile as far as I’m concerned. If Lee Johnson has any ambition he will be going all out to sign him in the summer (especially if we don’t go up) we need an instant upgrade on the two that we’ve got in currently and he would be a perfect fit.
Hmm, seems odd that he wants to stay yet he's being released. How did his stats compare to Burge this season out of curiosity?
He would be a good option to have, and would improve the squad, as we'd get rid of Matthews. He would be a useful signing and allow us to let Patterson have regular 1st Team game time on loan at a League One club, so we can assess his chances for the future.
Apparently he couldn’t agree terms, their fans are fuming about it. He is a much better keeper than Burge if I’m honest and he has saved Pompey a lot of points this season and was their player of the season.
Brilliant, remember that. Niall Quinn was a decent goalie Was it Tony coton who got sent off ? My mind blurs with age lol. I thought quinn saved for us at one time.
Solid dependable league one goalie, would even be alright in the Championship I think. Like some have said, would have him in the squad over matthews any day of the week
Would agree with that don’t mind Burge think at Championship level or EFL 1 he is OK but I don’t rate Matthews . The Pompey keeper would be challenging Burge which is no bad thing but whether he would come without being guaranteed a starting role I would be doubtful.
I get what you’re saying, but I’d like to think the club will be looking to take on players who are happy to prove they’re best, none of this play on merit because of who you are etc. Him and Burge though would be two good LG1 Keepers
I'd always take a keeper as one of my loan players. They don't have to fit into 'the system' particularly and are less likely to be injured.
He would be starting every game imo. Very good keeper. Bit suspect from free kicks, but he commands his box well and is a really good shot stopper. I wanted us to sign him last summer when he wasn’t getting a game for them.
My memory's not great, either, but if I remember correctly Sir Niall saved a penalty for us at Bradford, having scored the only goal of the game before doing so. I do remember that I was there, though, and it was pissing down
I was working abroad during that game and one of my lads was there. I thought the game was over so I rang off my mobile to find out what had happened. He answered and was talking me through the last few minutes. Through the bedlam I could make out him saying 'Ffs, Poom, get back' then an eruption of noise that lasted minutes before the phone went dead. It was another 10 minutes before I found out what had actually happened
