This business between the Israelis and Palestinians is dreadful. My heart breaks for the victims, and for all the moderate, peace loving Jews and Muslims around the world who don't want things to be this way.
A London tribunal has allowed an appeal against an Enfield council fine on a vehicle alleged to have driven through a low traffic neighborhood road closed to vehicles. The offending vehicle was owned by Enfield council. So the council appealed against its own decision to fine itself, and lost. But then appealed to the tribunal.... and won.
I heard the subject of voter ID being discussed on Question Time last night. Sadly I have to conclude this is a move by the Conservatives to adopt a more Trumpian approach to the process. To use any means, however indirect, to disenfranchise people who aren't likely to vote for you. It clearly moves the country towards having a national ID card system, whether the Tories deny that or not. And I don't want to live in a country where the the first thing the Police do if they stop you, is ask for your papers. I don't care if they have voter ID in France or Canada or anywhere else. This isn't France and it isn't Canada. And as the Author bloke pointed out last night on TV, there isn't a voting fraud problem in the UK. Nobody - even the Conservative - dared to suggest that there is. So why then do we need voter ID? The only people who want to sow the seeds of suspicion that voter fraud is a problem (or could become one in the future) are people who believe in the Trump principle that anybody who doesn't vote for him doesn't deserve a vote at all, because voting for his opponent is an unpatriotic and subversive act.
Blatantly true. It also shows an element of hubris creeping into the government, just as it did with the Thatcher and Blair governments. And it's still with Blair.
very easy solution - if the problem is voter fraus, they can issue a free ID card with aphoto to anyone who wants or needs it. But this government seem to be picking up every idea the Republicans dream up and adding their own slant to it. I believe I read in 2019 there was one case of voter fraud un the UK. But this new proposal will effectively dienfranchise over 2 million voters. The only (slightly) amusing side to this is to watch the TV interviews where cabinet ministers try and argue they aren't doing it simply to favour their own party in the next election.
I hear the Trump corporations are under criminal investigation now in the US... Just mildly surprised it's taken this long.
That's very Boris - "Great British Railways" Much grander and more puffed up than 'British Rail'. Can we have some other much-loved institutions resurrected in a similar manner? Great British Leyland? Wonderful cars
Here we go - Panorama, with Earl Spencer practically saying Martin Bashir killed Princess Diana. Nothing to do with Prince Charles then. Did Bashir marry Di when she was barely out of her teens and then spend the next decade and a half shagging some other bloke's wife? No. He didn't. I wonder what terms the Earl is on with His Royal Highness our future King.
The president of Belarus is like all despots, only one thing matters to him- clinging on to power, regardless of the cost to anyone else.
State Terrorism. They hijacked an airliner. Doesn't matter what cover story they have. The other passengers can just be grateful the Pres didn't simply decide to give his MiG29 some target practice and shoot the plane down.
I read in the news that Prince William and Kate have visited Scotland. It's a beautiful country, but I hope they didn't have to sit down to dinner with Nicola Sturgeon or any SNP politicians. They don't want you there William. And I'd prefer if they didn't pretend that they want English tourists to visit after the pandemic. Fortunately their attitude does not represent the majority of Scots people.
I'm not sure it would be wise for the BLM movement to alienate the Biden Administration. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-57245837 Rome wasn't built in a day.
Strange that his sister takes that attitude. I've just heard an interview with her brother, who spoke very warmly about Joe Biden. Sounds a bit like the Corbyn brothers.
