Fred isn't a defensive midfielder as such, he's more a number 6, which I'd say is a comparable type of player to Nick Butt or Ander Hererra for instance. He's not as good as either of those, but he's not as bad as Treble is making out IMHO. He works hard and makes a nuisance of himself. At least he works for his wages. Before anyone scoffs, this type of player has been valuable to United since forever, with Park, Fletcher and O'Shea good recent examples. I reckon if we got Rice in, it would be Matic who'd leave. Fred would stay and still have a job to do. I actually reckon McTominay would make a decent centre half but whether that is ever actually tried is unlikely.
Just on Fletcher, if it wasn't for a bullshit yellow card (that wasn't even a booking) in the semi-final I'm convinced we would've won that Champions League final in 2009. He was in many ways more influential than some of our star players in that season.
On a completely different subject, hands up anyone who thought that this season we would have a better team than the RS and have their CL fate very much in our hands? We are playing for pride but they are playing for their ****ing season No problem for me with playing Fred and McTominay together tomorrow btw. #nojinx
I checked the fixture list at the beginning of the season and I was dreading playing Liverpool so close to the end of the season. Then the game came by and ended up meaning nothing. I have to say that part is very fun. Fk ‘em!! I hope Fred scores a hat trick tomorrow. Even Treble would sign him up for another five years. lol
