Ok, so it loks like SC has departed for the challenge of turning around the fortunes of forest instead of ours....... our fans seem fairly divided too on wether loosing him is for the better.

Personally, like many others I will always thank him for his trieless hours of hard work to keep some sort of unity in the depleated squad we had last season..........and in the adversity that was i dont think too many of us would have said he would walk.......it was more likely going to be a shove!.......

So, why has he gone? what is the attraction for a southern boy to want to sound his trade in the north midlands?

To pastures new - and the big question.............who would we like to see at the helm?????

For me, I would like to see Curbishley, i think he could do a good job of gettiong us playiong attack minded football....discuss

Everytime a manager leaves a club, Curbs' name is always banded about.

In my eyes - we need a man manager, someone who will play the best 11 and not his preferential 11.

Sean O'Driscoll is a good shout - maybe even Steve Coppell?

If you want stability then Coppell aint yer man.

Who we get will give us indication of where CSI want to take us and by which route. Using some of the names bandied about on this and other forums in recent weeks then if it is someone like Mark Hughes then we are looking at an immediate return and investment in the squad to match - highly unlikely.

If it is someone like Dave Jones then we are looking at steady growth and investment and getting the club into the promotion zone in a couple of years - possibly.

If it is some young manager from the lower leagues (such as Eddie Howe) then we are looking at the five year plan - probably.

If it is promotion from within (eg, Guy Whittingham) then it is a long season of struggle and probable relegation - I don't think they are that stupid or sentimenatal.

You won't be an attractive job for anyone, in all honesty.

    Out of our League:
    Martin O'Neill
    Arsene Wenger

Realistic targets I wouldn't object to:
    Uncle Avraam
    Peter Reid
    Steve Compell
    Mark Hughes
    Dave Jones

    No thankyou
    Steve Mclaren
    Nigel Worthington
    Steve Keen
    Harry Redknapp

Alan Curbishley could do a job for you it is true........Not sure he is the best man for the job. For working with little or no money Dave Jones is your man. Although Dave doesn't show his emotions like other managers do. Which might erk some fans, he is quietly passionate. For good footballing decisions though just look at what Cardiff achieved under his stewardship. All it needed was just a tad more investment and he would have taken them up. Lets face it he does have something to square with saints too, which for you guys may be an added bonus. You need someone to hit the ground running to get you out of the current stressful position you find yourselves in. For what it is worth Jones can and has done this before............

No way in Hell! He may be a successful manager but he burnt his bridges to Pompey years ago, not to mention the part he played in our financial downfall coupled with the fact that he refused to accept any resonspibility in the matter whatsoever and his arrogant demand to be remembered as the greatest manager Portsmouth ever had despite there being at least three managers with a better win/lose ratio than him and two who accomplished more than him. The only circumstance in which I will ever think of giving up supporting Portsmouth would be if Harry Redknapp became manager again.

    Steve Mclaren is your man.
He has always managed to turn a good team into a poor team, so it would be a new challenge to do the opposite.

He did a good job at Middlesborough, he did a great job at Twente, and he did ok for England - yes he failed but he won half the games he he had. He record since Twente is middling. I dont believe he's half as bad as people in this country seem to think he is and I'd be willing to give him a shot - I'd be in the minority though.

Nah mate I am not....I thought he was an excellent manager at Saints....I also thought Lowe treated the man badly at Saints. I had a lot of time for him. He would do a good job for you in my view is all.

It's Dave Jones for me. He's got the experience at all levels and is highly regarded amongst fans of his previous clubs. He still lives at Chilworth by all accounts, so I would think the job would appeal. Sean O'Driscoll could be a shrewd move and I quite like the idea of Mark Hughes but Mr Jones ticks most of the boxes I reckon.
