Let's not get into arguments about when summer starts: our football season is over and the retained list has been issued. It's pretty savage and means there will be a lot of activity during the summer months.

    RETAINED LIST

Under contract: Mike Cooper, Luke Jephcott, Adam Randell, Ryan Hardie, George Cooper, Panutche Camara, Niall Ennis, Brandon Pursall.

Out of contract, offered new contract: Joe Edwards, Conor Grant, Ollie Tomlinson, Danny Mayor, Ryan Law.

Out of contract, offered alternative role: Luke McCormick

Out of contract, released: Will Aimson, Byron Moore, Jarvis Cleal, Rubin Wilson, Scott Wootton, Klaidi Lolos, Frank Nouble, Lewis Macleod, Ben Reeves, Jack Ruddy.

Out of contract, released (retired): Gary Sawyer

Loan expired: Kelland Watts, Adam Lewis, Jerome Opoku, Tyrese Fornah, Sam Woods

Scholarships extended: Alfie Wotton, Finley Craske, Rhys Shirley

I've highlighted those that surprise to a greater or lesser degree me in red! Although I've said before that Byron Moore is a decent squad member, he's 33 in August and in the brutal world of football I suppose that makes his departure inevitable.

Quite a list as you say. Some of those names a few of us will know nothing about being they are kids but there are a fair few senior players. I'm not gobsmacked or otherwise with anyone on either list. I think Argyle will work far less on sentiment from here on and far more on professionalism given the way things are done now. I think anyone without a sale value is subject to worth in football terms and if they aren't great then they will go. It's the way football is supposed to work and the way we haven't worked for as long as I can remember. It's going to be one of those watch this space periods isn't it.

Did season ticket renewal on line today or rather son did it for me. Fingers crossed now all season ticket holders at least will get in for all of next season.

It's no use having players who are never fir either. Lewis Macleod is a case in point and there must be something that's prevented Reeves playing too as when he has got onto the pitch he's looked decent.

Let's hope the season starts with a full crowd. I get my second vaccination this week.....

It it's only 2000 and I'm one of them then they should adopt last season's tactic of first come first served........bollox to the slow coaches. (only joking).

At least with so many to sign it will give us something to watch out for for the next couple of months. Prepare to read lots of "underwhelmed" posts from our happy go lucky lot.

I can hardly ever remember a player once a game is over so a lot of the names are lost on me. I only ever remember a few who have outstanding games against us. Some people seem able to reel off name after name and where they have been etc. I've never been statto .

I remember him notdistant. He did the same trick several times and nobody seemed to want to stop him or challenge. It's the names I don't remember mostly.

Just read the Gaffer's pep talk. Suitably uplifted by it and ready to go again now. As long as he actually means what he has said and it isn't a Borisism.

I remember him! Chirst alive, I do. Astonishing. Not suggesting he's available but he was released by Cambridge United in 2012 and then kicked around non league football until picked up by MK Dons.

I think the number of players released says a lot. We've had too many who've either not appeared or nor performed when they did.

History may be learned from but the lesson of history is as they say, that nobody learns the lesson of history.

As you say, I believe, but there areno guarantees.

As I type this I see an 9 year old kid has been struck by lightning and killed at a football training session. Puts our own little troubles into perspective.

Yep I read that a bit earlier. Tragic story. How can you legislate for something like that but I bet somebody will get blamed.

Going back to the MK Dons man. My guess is their manager watched a few videos of us and put the idea of him running through the middle in his head. Would want him if he did it regularly to a number of teams. We have a perfect team to allow somebody to do that. We stood off players and gave them so much room at times it was pitiful. I got fed up shouting at the screen this season to "watch the feckin bloke in all that space" "close him down for god sake" . We did give them acres of room.

His passing looks pretty good too........... but MK Dons only signed him in January this year, we're in the same league as them and he was born in Cambridge, so isn't a million miles from home. Hard to see how a deal could be done.

Anyway, we want defenders who know when to step into midfield and when to fall back, who can do so as a unit not separate individuals, who know instinctively where to stand at corners and where to tell other people to stand. Being able to beat 3 men and hit a 40 yard pass are perhaps secondary considerations.

Defenders who just plain know how to defend might be novel. Can't see us getting any signing for a little while yet though. We never move that quick do we.

I've been reading around the boards to see who is being nominated or rumoured etc for us next season. It's almost impossible to make much sense of any of them given it's half the football league.

Bit surprised at this one. I thought everyone was a bit strapped for cash and here we are doing an upgrade on the lights at a "significant" cost. I haven't read around yet but I bet some are moaning already about it not being spent on the players they would like.

    I expect you've seen this.

    https://www.pafc.co.uk/news/2021/may/chairmans-chat/

By far the most significant bit is:

For a couple of years, I’ve been thinking about taking that engagement to the next level and began last year thinking more seriously about making an offer of new shares to fans who wished to become shareholders.

There are many complications with doing so (notably regulatory ones) but such an offer now seems more timely than ever. We’ve yet to work out exactly how to do it, so I can’t tell you the terms on which this would be, should it prove possible.

I can tell you that they will be the same type of shares as those owned by other shareholders, including me. I can also tell you that this is not the start of a move to give fans control of the club. I’m a fan, will continue to own more than 75% of the shares, and be non-executive chairman.

I don’t know all the terms, I don’t know how many may be put up for sale and I don’t know how much they may cost! I’d like though to be better able to gauge interest so we can think more coherently about all those things.

    [ My emphasis ]

If you remember, James Brent tried this via the Argyle Trust but the proposal foundered on the issue of what influence and involvement the fans would have. Certainly with Simon Hallett continuing to hold 75%, in real terms the minority interests have no real influence and why should they, given Simon Hallett has put in millions personally, all as equity and completely at risk. He's made it very plain what he's NOT doing. He's absolutely right and it's completely understandable. Nobody but an idiot would do otherwise.

The weak position of minority shareholders isn't peculiar to football clubs of course, it's entirely normal. There are legal protections of course but they tend only to deal with doomsday scenarios and even then, for example, didn't protect my dear old Dad from losing some pretty risky investments he made when he felt the underlying business had been sold far too cheaply to an interested party, We have heard of that sort of thing in football. I don't imagine for a minute Simon Hallett would have anything to do with that but looking 10 or 20 years down the road, who knows who the majority share holder might be?

On the other hand, if fans are willing to see it as their way collectively to put a significant sum into the club when it needs it to make a step up to promotion from this league in difficult times, trusting in the Club to do they best they can with it, then all well and good. The healthiest attitude to take is they are in effect kissing the cash goodbye with no guarantee of success. They may end up owning shares in a Premier League club but the chances are they won't, but in the meantime, they've done their bit for the club. I'd have a bit of that.

Because the club is already being pretty open and transparent, being a shareholder isn't going to get you much more relative to all the other fans apart from an invite to the AGM. That's another thing investors would have to accept.

    Watch this space.............

Yep I read that last night. I can see why this suggestion wouldn't have taken off under Mr Brent. You know my opinion of him already so I won't go there again. He simply put wasn't trusted with anyone's cash and rightly so. However, I think Hallett is seen in a very different light to Brent and there may well be a fair few who will go for this. Nothing major but just a way of saying I actually own a bit of my club. I can't say I will be one of them though. I feel I have done my bit over the years and especially more recently. If Hallett manages to pull this off then all power to him and those that subscribe and I feel sure none of the cash will be wasted or syphaned off elsewhere.

I thought the boy did good when he got his chance. Worth a look for a season and probably won't cost a fortune.
