There were 91,000 police officers in England and Wales in 1970. Last year there were 123,000. As the population hasn't increased by a higher percentage than that they should be able to cope. Maybe their priorities are different now? Maybe the change inndemographi s has played a part in the increase in crime, especially violent ones with knives?

Have you ever considered applying for a role at the Daily Mail. Seems you'd fit right in. Quality news I heard too. Sure someone said so.

Don't like facts? Maybe the Socialist Worker would appeal to your journalistic tendencies? Or maybe the Beano...

Stop been docile ****. You have no ****ing clue as to my political leanings whereas you've pinned your colours to the mast numerous times.

I eschew media/news in general. Usually, the first I hear of big news like deaths/disasters and stuff are on forums like these.

In addition, I have no understanding of the impact of immigration on police staffing and violent crime, and any correlation since 1970 so link me up. I'd actually be quite interested to know and surprised if it was as you framed it, but quite happy to know the facts.

I dont disagree with you on much but i actually felt mccann was prickly towards Burns not the other way around when defending the teams indefensible performances with the same old tripe and burns was simply doing his job asking the questions his listeners wanted asking.

He was more supportive of mccann than most until the wheels really came off after first lockdown.

I'd put the Daily Mail and Socialist Worker in the same category when it comes to balanced reporting of facts. Only difference is the size of the readership but then the Mail does tend to sugar-coat its bile with quite a lot of celeb gossip and entertainment as a means to spread its ideological bullshit. Socialist Worker is just ideolgical bullshit from cover to cover.

Wouldnt wipe my arse on either rag.

I agree, he was more supportive for longer, but when he did turn he turned a little to far imo, if he's as in the know as he likes us to believe then he would have known Exactly what was happening behind closed doors. I personally think he was taking out his frustrations with the Allams on his only outlet at the time which was grant and I just think there was a couple of times where he went to far

Could it not just be that he was digging to get to the bottom of the story as is his job?

I know he was frustrated, but if he did know what was happening behind the scenes then its just as likely he was trying to get to the bottom of what was happening on the record. I dont think it was personal against McCann at all just frustration that he wasnt helping himself by stonewalling.

Possibly, but as I say.... I personally think he went too far on a couple of occasions, not everything going on behind the scenes needs to made public ( grant should have taken that line a couple of times this season ) or be put on record. others like yourself may not think he crossed the line and that's fair enough.

Anyway, it's all been and gone now. The past is the past, let's enjoy the summer and look forward to the first home game of the season and be back in to watch the team

I will say that he, like most supporters (me included) couldn't possibly see how he was still in a job after wigan and seems delighted to be proven wrong this season.

Keeping faith has proved to be a masterstroke and implies the owners didnt see McCann as the reason for relegation. Its heartening to see that in modern football. I just hope the fans in the ground dont turn on him or the players if we hit a sticky spot next year, especially if the owners remain and resources are limited.

There are managers in the Championship who have never managed a team to a title, and have never turned a sinking ship around so quickly, so that indicates to me he has potential to be a great manager - if he learns to handle the media better.

Reminds me of Steve Bruce in 2015/2016 when we went up after relegation the previous season.

We all know how that ended when he sat down with the current owners to discuss transfer targets etc.

So you eschew media/news. Explains why you appear so ill informed.

I would say it is obvious which mast your colours are nailed to. Or not.

If you can't see that it is ridiculous blaming increased knife crime on lack of police when there are over 33% more police officers than there were 50 years ago but the population hasn't gone up by that much so other factors must be at play then you are the one who needs to stop being docile ****.

No. Quoting police numbers. It was a poster some while back who first mentioned police numbers being reduced. He wasn't pulled up on it so responses to him shouldn't be either.

Who said it was aimed at your post in particular and not the other?

We're all aware of the general policy on this, I'm simply reminding people. I have no intention of looking at 'he says, she says', I'm simply asking posters to individually moderate themselves.

Just to throw a little clarity on numbers of police officers for the last decade I found this relating to Humberside Police .. which shows a steep decline in numbers from 2010, ( as budgets were cut during austerity)but then a recovery which now lists higher numbers then 2010. However bare in mind a police officer serves a probationary period of 2 years .. an apprenticeship as you will.
