George Floyd killer Derek Chauvin asks for new trial George Floyd killer Derek Chauvin asks for new trial - BBC News This is common and won't be granted, imo
We've also got the Dalian Atkinson case going on now where he is reported to have a coppers shoelaces ingrained in two places on his face. Dalian Atkinson murder trial: Ex-footballer Tasered and 'kicked' - BBC News
I'm glad the Jury found him guilty of murder, but putting all that to one side for a moment.... I suppose it is difficult for him to ever have what would be deemed by the defence a fair trial. I think he did have a fair trial, but I've also done Jury Service in a murder trial, and under the conditions that were set at the time for me as a Jury member, he (Chauvin) did not have a fair trial in the true sense of the word - in that Jury members really shouldn't know the defendent, and there are strrict guidelines around doing any internet search on the defendent. However, with the publicity around this case and Floyd George, it would take an absolute recluse with no internet access, tv or radio, not to know about it. Also the trial was surrounded outside by mass gatherings. Be interesting to see how the Judge calls it on these claims, because they are founded, but before Sucky says it....fook him.
A police officer has been dismissed after hitting a vulnerable 17 year old girl with learning disabilities, with a baton “at least 30 times”, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has said. She had flagged down the police car and told them she was a vulnerable person with mental health problems, after leaving the people escorting her on an outdoor walk. There's CCTV footage and the video cam of the officer himself. Both have only been seen by the IOPC and a close member of the girl's family during the hearing. Initially the copper was only being done for misconduct, not even gross misconduct. And the CPS have decided not to pursue criminal charges. The police have offered a public apology but not apologised directly to the family or the girl. https://news.sky.com/story/police-o...girl-more-than-30-times-with-a-baton-12291704
I love the way the po po make it out like these are isolated incidents. I bet if there was no CCTV or bodycam footage he'd have got off.
He’s pleaded to the rape and kidnapping of the girl . A Met Police officer has admitted kidnapping and raping Sarah Everard. The 33-year-old vanished as she walked home in Clapham, south London, on 3 March. Her body was found a week later in woodland near Ashford, Kent. Appearing at the Old Bailey, PC Wayne Couzens, 48, pleaded guilty both to kidnap and rape. The court heard he also accepted responsibility for killing Ms Everard but did not enter a plea on the charge of murder.
Is he going to say that he didn't mean to kill her or something? I wonder if there's any more news on his missus?
The plea hearing on the murder charge has apparently been put back to July pending medical reports. So he’s maybe hoping to claim diminished responsibility or something.
I had a read up in the local paper this afternoon, they are awaiting psychiatric reports. He's admitted to killing, so now it's over to the medical reports on how that charge will be played out. https://www.kentonline.co.uk/deal/news/officer-admits-kidnap-and-rape-of-sarah-everard-248619/ Quote: Jim Sterman QC, representing Couzens, said: "Responsibility for the killing is also admitted, the only issue, if there is to be one, is to be his mental state at the time and reports are not yet ready."
Hoping to go for the angle that he was a perfectly normal bloke, who lost his **** and started flashing, then did what he did whilst suffering from some form of breakdown. Can’t see it working like, he’s getting 30 years minimum.
This. He has no chance. He'll have no history of any episodes otherwise he wouldn't have been allowed to join the force.
I don't understand why they bother with court cases when they're bang to rights for this type of crime. Just strap them to a boulder and hoy them in the Tyne
There’s been plenty of cases that were supposedly ‘bang to rights’ that weren’t.... Without a proper functioning justice system we don’t have a functioning society. This bloke has admitted his guilt so the case will be seemingly centred on any mitigating circumstances, which almost certainly won’t be accepted as such, but he has the right to have them heard.
