In the absence of any meaningful football, we begin to focus on other matters.

It's come up to that time of year again where thoughts turn to having a break from the grind. Managed to get my usual cottage down in the Dartmouth area for a week starting Saturday, but am in a bit of a quandry about next week.

I've been instructed to get things ready to load in the car, and always the first thing to go in the storage well under the rear floor are the required refreshments for the week. No problem with the evenings - half a dozen (plus!) assorted bottles of Cotes du Rhone/Chianti/Rioja will sort that out, it's the daytime I'm concerned about with the uncertain weather predicted.

Will it be an extra 24 pack of Peronis or a couple of bottles of Dalwhinnie Winter Gold? Terrible predicament to be in because I hate making such important decisions, so it'll probably be both. That's it then - bets suitably hedged.

Saturday morning load up the rest of the gear and the four dogs and I'll be off to the English Riviera. Relaxed in the knowledge that I won't have to worry about City in the playoffs whilst I'm down there this year. Nor will I be worried I'd made the right choice of oblivion inducement - bliss. <ok>

Not sure how you'll sleep for the next few nights with such life changing decisions pending.

Weather has such a big influence on tipple.

Im a beer drinker but chose ales dependent on weather.<cheers>
    Even within breweries.
Badger beers, nice weather, golden champion or Hopping Hare Usually Fursty Ferret or even Tanglefoot.
More locally, Weetwood beers. Cheshire Cat or Old Dog?
As for wine, whatever the weather, it has to be red and it has to be heavy. No mamby pamby light wines or rose.<steam>

Last night I prepared for winter.
After 4 months in a dark cupboard, I filtered and bottled 3 litres of sloe gin. As with all production processes, last night was a period of quality control.<whistle>

good on you sparks, we've also been busy and I can announce that myself and Mrs mole will be commencing our annual Tour of the Principality, on the 26th of June in Saundersfoot. Plans are afoot to take in friends in Llandudno (cross country trek), cousins in Glyn Ceiriog and dropping into Shrewsbury before home.
I have a supply of Penderyn available for the trip. We did a very similar Tour last September, after which Wales went into lockdown. #noconnection
I will be using the trip as a full pre-season, and getting the miles in on my hip, before triumphantly returning to The Ricoh.

    Good posts guys. <ok>

Wise preparations all round and sensible to prepare for all eventualities. Me and Mrs BfB have been in Poole for the last week spending quality time with our daughter, son in law and 15 week old grandaughter who is an absolute darling.:emoticon-0152-heart:emoticon-0152-heart:emoticon-0152-heart

Have not sampled much falling down water due to the need to drive but saw Sainsburys offered 25% off 6 bottles or more for wine, bottles over £5. I don't usually shop at Sainsburys so took the opportunity to stock up on a number of wines I would not normally buy. Nice heavy reds for me and some Pinot Grigios for she who must be obeyed. Look forward to a good tasting session when we get home next week. <ok>

Hope your pre season tour goes well Robbie and you are fighting fit for the new season. Cov will be the first away game I will look out for and hope we are able to travel and enjoy a pre game pint or two. <cheers>

Not sure about you guys, but I wont be drinking any of the light summer beers today.
Feels more like mulled wine weather in Cheshire.
A bit of an edge to the wind.

Abbott Reserve or Theakston Old Peculier suited to the chilly weather we have today.

There is a nice micro brewery in Bridgend, Bang on Brewery. While buying some personalised labelled IPA'S for my son in law's birthday I saw an 8.3% strong ale and a 13%, yes 13%, jalapeno flavoured beer.

You have to chill them right down and pour carefully to avoid overspill. I have consumed the 8.3%, tasted like the Carlsberg Special Brew I used to drink years ago. Too much alcohol and not enough taste for my liking. Building up to trying the jalapeño beer. Should be interesting!!!

Similar offer back home here with Sainsbury (and Tesco on times), but the 25% off half a dozen bottles offer only applies to wines over £7 per bottle in Wales to comply with Mr. Drakeford's minimum price law. <grr><grr>

If you consume that lot over 4 nights, how about a defibrillator?

Always find anything over 7 too sweet.

When I lived in bristol I used to have the odd pint from the Titanic brewery. Their strongest beer?
    Wreckage.

Clingo could probably get it where he is.

Not seen it in my neck of the woods other than in bottles. Though not seen wreckage at all. Titanic seems to have moved to designer beers these days. I think I may have had a pint of one of their beers when I was last in Stoke-on-Trent or thereabouts.

Coming off the beverages for a moment, there's always one essential piece of equipment we always take with us - a 4 slice toaster. If there's one thing that really annoys me it's queuing for toast. <grr>

I can't understand anyone letting a property out to a family or group and providing a bloody 2 slice toaster in the kitchen. You just want to sit down together in the morning and stuff your faces with toast, eggs, sausages or whatever - or maybe a little marmalade instead if you're feeling a bit delicate after the night before.

I can live without the espresso coffee makers that seem to have become "de rigueur" these days - just give me a bloody 4 slice toaster.
