If Levy and Hitchen are going to control transfers (in and out), it doesn't matter who we bring in. I didn't want Mourinho because we were never going to get him the players that he would need to play his version of football. The same thing happened to BMJ when Commolli was colluding with Levy to undermine the manager...and Poch when we ended up with Aurier and Lucas, neither of whom he wanted and who he used when he had no choice. No matter who he is, the next manager's ****ed if he's trying to coax decent performances out of Dier, Dele, Winks, Aurier and Sanchez....whilst Hitchen and Levy buy in more of the same.
It depends how you’re defining better though. Benitez, like Mourinho, are big names in management but both have enjoyed their success in yesteryear. Benitez’s last two jobs were Newcastle and Dalian Professional and right now there doesn’t seem to be an active queue for his signature despite being a free agent. I think football’s moving in a direction where the likes of Mourinho and Benitez will struggle in the current climate at bigger clubs and so I’d rather get in a manager who’s a bit more up to date nowadays, even if they don’t have the CV of those two.
Our problem is ENIC, they shop in Aldi when our competitors shop in Waitrose, they are never prepared to push the boat out to bring in enough top quality. The list of top players we wanted but failed to acquire over the years is endless, going back to the days when we wanted the likes of Eto, Morientes, and more recently Hazard, Mane, Fernandes, Grealish, Dybala etc etc, Levy was not prepared to pay what was required as the balance sheet is king.
I’d want to see Marcelo Gallardo. Progressive, flexible, winner. Could be what we need for a project.
Kicker with a baffling story about how Jessie Marsch has rejected us before moving from G Fuel Vienna to Monster Energy Dusseldorf Literally nobody has reported, let alone claimed, that we had any interest in Marsch
Yeah I was just reading that. Feels like the media are saying everyone’s rejecting us just because they’ve accepted another job. Marsch going to Leipzig is hardly a surprise either.
He's not even the first manager to follow that path, as Ralf Hassenhuttl did the exact same thing a few years ago It's almost as if the press can't bring themselves to say there's something decidedly iffy about the player laundering going on there...
I admire your optimism! supposedly it was cheaper for Levy to get rid of Jose before the final, in case he won it, which would have resulted in a higher compensation package. That sounds far more believable to me! “But Daniel, there’s no plan in place for life after Jose?” Levy: “I don’t care! I got more monnnaaayyyy!”
Oh boy, Spursweb's admin is going to have a lot of Nomad and Chav avatars to remove from the replies...
He's almost certainly going to be asking to leave, doubt he'll slap in an actual request but he'll be wanting out in the summer. It's just whether anyone will pay the asking price or not. I think it's why whoever our new manager should be will be interested in the challenge of a potential Kane-less Spurs. It was rumoured when Jose joined that he had assurances Kane (and Son) would stay and I'm not sure a new manager can be given those assurances now, so I want someone who won't see that as a deterrent. That said, Spurs without Kane right now is a very worrying thought, our form towards the end under Poch and recently under Jose was that of a relegation/ low bottom half side and that's with Kane often bailing us out, dread to think of not having him around to do so.
...and we're back to Spurs fans being more obsessed with Harry Kane leaving than anyone else Sort of like we have been for the past four years
I don’t think we would miss anyone like we will miss Kane, not even the purple patch king himself, Sonny will be missed like consistent Harry. I guess thats why fans are more obsessed/concerned about Harry leaving. I’m sure you think it’s no big deal because he has 3 years of his contract left. You like the idea that he’s only with us due to contract terms and not his desire and hunger? Not me.
I bet the new manager will be given the assurances in order for Levy to get who he wants. - a list that seems to be decreasing daily as it is! Then once the new gaffer is in place, Kane is sold anyway. I’d imagine levy would have to lie to any potential suitor just to get them to take the job! Imagine telling someone that on top of everything else that’s rotten, Kane won’t be here next season either!!
There isn’t really anyone else Spurs fans would be too bothered about leaving other than Son, so it’s kind of natural to be more concerned with the prospect of losing our one truly top class player.
