But we would be heavily recruiting as a recently promoted side who are always seen as most likely to be relegated, making attracting players that much harder. Recruiting a new team in this division, where we are established as one of the better sides, would give us the opportunity to build not only a strong side capable of winning the league but also momentum, which could carry us through the early stages of a Championship campaign, and a settled side who know each other and can play together.
Our GD is much better than Charlton's, so realistically 3 will be enough. Lets get them on Saturday and avoid last day nerves.
And he only got into the team because of neccessity, not any foresight from our mystics behind the head coach.
The job is essentially the same recruitment task but at a lower level. Out of the two I would rather see us in the Championship struggling with buying championship / premiership level players then spend another season in L1. In fact, I would rather have my feet amputated than have to spend another season in L1
Quite right. He almost stumbled upon him. Have we actually won a match since Wright returned to the side?
Fair enough. Personally, I don't have a problem with League 1. I don't think its awful. Subjectively, SAFC are too big for this division. On the other hand, looking at it objectively, its still the third best level of football in the country and the ability of the players is still, in reality, exceptional. As Clocky says with regard to the u23s, the gap isn't as big between as some like to make out. I'd rather we took time to rebuild properly at a lower level than have a crack premature crack at the Championship and end up failing again.
My heart goes out to you lads, it's just not fair a huge club like yourselves having to put up with this. I bet you can't wait for the day when you become mediocre. Keep your chins up.
Their keeper has made 3 or 4 top saves tonight. Burge had one comfortable one first half and the goal (not burgess’s fault by any stretch). That could easily have finished 3 or 4-1 to us! Not saying we deserved that (we didn’t), but if we took our chances, it’d have been a comfortable win!
Whilst that’s right, what if he isn’t putting it in on the training ground? A gaffer sees more of players than any of us. If Sanderson Poked up to task in training, I can’t see any reason why you don’t pick him. Once he’s the only centre half you have, you’re forced to play him. You then find out just how good he is and hindsight becomes that mystical thing! only hypothesising mind! I have no idea in reality
It would appear the magic post alterer has been busy again. FFS.....get a grip, absolutely pathetic. What's the f*cking point of having rivalry if you can't have banter.
Can't respond Jim as i don't know what it was originally, however i logged off after the **** show to drown my sorrows had a nap and back on refreshed, but not good if we cant have a bit of banter, its nearly as bad as your board
I absolutely hate this idea of under 23's being a development squad and the players needing to play age appropriate opponents. When Liverpool won the European Cup in 1977 their team had at LB Joey Jones, age 21, CM Jimmy Case, age 22, and on the bench were Peter McDonnell, age 23, Alan Waddle, age 22 and David Fairclough, age 19. Five of the squad of 16 would have been from the under 23 team. Just look at our 73 FA Cup Side, Tueart, age 22, Pitt, age 20, Horswill, age 19, Hughes, age 23 and Halom, age 23 I would say that for most of my life a young player was 18 to 20. From 21 on you were a normal 1st team squad player.
