What a desperately poor game of football.

Only positives were Moore reaching 20 goals - the next best is 5 - so well done <applause> and a thoroughly promising hour from Colwill <applause>

Moore had his best game for ages. Ralls gives everything for the cause but has no end product - all effort, no quality. Colwill had a brilliant debut start.

Vaulks is an accident waiting to happen every game. Commitment to the cause is no excuse for a challenge like that.

I've said it before, add in Pack and Bacuna and we're blessed with midfield muggers. Then add in Williams for the headless chicken category.

We keep craving a 20 goal striker yet the twice we've been promoted we've barely had players in double figures.
More teams with 20 goal strikers fail to get promoted than succeed.

    Good on him though.:emoticon-0148-yes:

I didn't want him but fair play to Moore 20 goals with still 2 games to go is impressive. I take it all back. <ok>

Colwill did well. Hope he can build on that. Played further forward than Wilson so created problems Wycombe didn't expect. I think Wilson would have been a more effective sub than Williams though to keep pressure on their back 4.

The rest, mostly grunt and little guile but again Desmond gave us more when he came on. MM can we please sign him?

Nevertheless a win is a win. I'll take it.

I think Wilson would have started if we needed the points.

He wont be here next season so hes used players who will be.

We were worse after the subs.

Agreed. Apart from Desmond we lost continuity. I know it is very unlikely Wilson will be around next season but he would have added much more than Williams.

Those seasons we got promoted were more due to grinding out 1-0’s and 2-1’s rather than goal power. Our defence was worth a goal or two. Plus I’m sure our non strikers chipped in more regularly with goals.
In short we didn’t need a 20+ goalscorer.

    I agree.
But if you look back over the seasons, more 20 goal strikers fail to get promoted than do.
In the championship, whenever we've had a 20 goal player we've failed to go up. Chops, whitts.
As many (more) clubs get promoted without a 20 goal striker than with.

    Pukki got 25, norwich.
    Watford top scorer, 13.

    Toney, 29, Brentford, playoffs
    Moore, cardiff, 8th
    Armstrong, 24, blackburn, 15th<yikes>

So, autos, one with, one without.
    Playoffs, 1 with, 3 without.

    Bournemouth, 15
    Seansea, 15
    Barnsley, 11

50% of teams with a 20 goal striker didnt even make the playoffs, one finishing bottom half of the table.

All I'm trying to say is a 20 goal striker isnt a silver bullet.
You're as well (better) off without one.

Remote we have been screaming for a 20 goal striker, now we have one you say he isn't a silver bullet. What we need is a decent midfield that is what we have been wanting for many a long year, the ones we have are not cutting it,like I said earlier Sheffield wed are going to be relegated and they have two players I am sure don't want to be playing in the first div ,they are Reach and Bannan, but they wont be there for long other clubs are going to snap them up for a song.Just saying.

Ive never been screaming for a 20 goal striker.
Ive held the line for years that they arent necessary.
We've had similar discussions on here off and on for the last 10 years and I've been consistent in my view. Not saying others are wrong, just my opinion. I'd rather have a couple strikers with 10 to 15 goals and other players chipping in all over.
The run we had when MM arrived had 7 or 8 scorers in 11 games.
As soon as we relyed just on Moore, we struggled.
The same happened with Chops. He'd have a run of scoring games, we'd win. He has a barren run, we didnt.

I agree that midfield is where attention is needed.
Two reasons, one to create, the other to steadily chip in with goals.

I'm not saying I'd get shot of Moore, certainly not. But relying on just him is folly.

Now, a 20 goal striker AND others chipping in.....

    Changing tack for the moment.

Predictable player substitutions are becoming annoying, particularly at ths stage of the season. Taking Colwill off after his first start and the lightweight Murphy on the hour was probably the right move, but for Bacuna and Williams - really?

OK, Wilson and Ojo won't be here next season, but along with Watters and Harris, there was a chance to follow up Colwill's debut with some innovation to our set up. FFS, we already know what Bacuna and Williams can offer - nothing to learn there.

It seems like we're stuck in a rut just doing the same old same old. Looks like Mick is ploughing the same furrow come what may - what does that tell us about prospects for next season?

It’s difficult to see past MM changing tactics and personal next season given his stubborn old school reputation.

If he read all the message boards (and even Glen) he’d be aware of the clear message from the fan base that we need the midfield replaced for high tempo quick footed creative and able retainers and passers of the ball forwards ie the polar opposite of what we’ve presently got.

No doubt. Johnny didnt add anything and Bacuna was poor.

I really dont see Bacuna or Ralls as attacking midfielders. Ralls thankfully was in the centre. But Bacuna again in that AM role.
