Really, What if the Ref has a howler and incorrectly sends off 3 of our players in the first 5 minutes. What if we score 3 goals all from penalties, which we got by fooling the ref into thinking one of our players was fouled when they weren't. Although as a general principle the the team that deserves to win, wins that's not always the case. Does the team with the best squad in the league, always win the league ?
Next year the big teams have two opportunities to beat us: 1: con the ref 2: ask for VAR and get another flawed bias ref to give them the decision because Pukki's pube was offside!
I think Robbie was referring to winning the league 'trophy' rather than this game. Errors impact less over the whole season and the team which finishes with the most points at the end 'deserves' to be champions. The current situation is very reminiscent of our situation two years ago with Sheffield United. Then we saw it through and I think we will this time as well.
I also think we'll get the title and I agree the longer the period you look at the less likely single events are a factor. Going off topic it also depends how you define winning. For example last time we won the title, Sheffield United also went up and Leeds stayed in the Championship. At that time many would say we won, Sheffield came second & Leeds lost. Move to the start of this season. Sheffield stayed up, Leeds got promoted and we got relegated, so in many peoples eyes we lost. Now we are going back to the PL, Leeds stayed up and Sheffield are coming down, they lost. You could argue as a club in all 3 seasons we won and perhaps the season we got relegated was the season we won the most. Some would say that in 2 out the last 3 seasons Sheffield United won, but over a longer period what did they win, if the order to win 2 out of 3, they put at risk the longer term stability of their club. Some times even when you lose you win, for us whether we've got promoted or relegated for me we've won, in that we've finished all of the last 3 season it terms of all the things that matter long term sustainability, constant improvement etc in a better place than at the start of the season. Finite v Infinite game.
That's a clever bit of logic canario. The long term situation is the important one IMO. Sheffield United have 14 points with 6 games to play. Will they finish with fewer points than our 20 last season?
Hopefully if we move the ball fast enough whilst wearing this kit Farkeball will lead to motion sickness for the opposition and thus a victory
Exactly. I was replying to Canary Spring, whose post I quoted. If Watford beat us to the title, they will deserve it, just as we will if we secure it.
Wow that is some big brain insight. The team that has the most points after 46 games deserves to be the winners . What does your virtual stats league have as winners ?
I think this is key - I feel much more positive about the long term future of Norwich than a few years ago when we sold Maddison. I think there’s a good chance we will get relegated next season, but I still think we would be ahead of where we were at the beginning of this season. It’s long term progress.
#metoo The petrol coloured one is not bad I even bought the orange keeper shorts which I'm wearing now in the garden.
