The wife and I were reminiscing the other night about our days in infants school circa late 1950s.
The subject of getting your school books marked by the teacher and being given a coloured star for your work.
Green, blue yellow etc were ok, red was quite good, silver was great but a gold star was the stand out achievement for work well done, and greatly treasured.
Anybody else remember those halcyon days when you didn't have anything to worry about as your years of being a Sunderland fan were on a far off horizon.
    Happy days indeed.

Yep such tranquil times, it was the 70s for me though, gold stars and swapping pannini footy stickers etc, almost seems a different world now. Age is a bitch, probably swapping knives or whatever now.

Infants late 70s juniors early 80s. Swapping panini stickers was the best. Playing conkers and marbles. My kids piss themselves at my childhood the spoilt gets.

The nuns didn't go in for praise - just a slap round the head if you forgot how many stones in a cwt!
And the Irish "Christian" Brothers later on were just as bad. Can't really say I enjoyed my schooling that much!!

I used to always get 'See me' in bright red pen at the bottom of the page. Didnt know what it actually meant so ignored it. Wasnt till well into the year that the teacher told me what it meant. Saved me a canny few tellings off I suppose.

    90’s kid here.

We would get gold stars but stuck them to our jumpers with about 5 inches of tape.

Makes me somewhere between 5-10 years younger than you but same here. Kids will never understand the feeling of having their knuckles wrapped with a conker covered in nail varnish or glue. I'm just pleased that I caught the tail end of the bygone era. Grew up without mobile phones, internet, modern gadgets. Life was so much more slower and simpler. Internet kicked in when I was at college. Hated computers. I was the only person who would do their coursework using the written word. Lecturers hated me for it.

Yes we learnt that during lockdown and home schooling.

The g'kids schools also now have houses ( very Hogwarts).. today their 'house' earned a reward... they could have a non-uniform day...the rest of the school didn't.

We had 'houses' back in the 70's mate. Primary was Armstrong, Aldrin, Borman and Collins. Secondary was Ettrick, Fawcett and Pemberton.

'House points' were given for doing anything half-decent. Remember getting one for taking my shoes off to stand on a chair to reach something on the top of a cupboard. <laugh>

I am the oldest of 8 children
When my siblings performance was low
The teacher used to say to them
    Look at your Vincent’s writing
Why can’t you be nice and neat like him
Well that’s what they all told me

I used to get love messages from the teachers, often used to write "see me" all over my work. Was even a stud at 7 year old ffs.

Same as me. Top Trumps, started stickers off with Dinosaur stickers, then cars, then the footy stickers - Argentina 1978 and Football 78

Before stickers I had footy cards that came in packs of (I think) five with a stick of chewing gum. The first card I got was Derek Parkin of Wolves, must have been about 1972-73.

The cards and stickers were great because you'd carry your swaps around with you and you could be showing your friends some and kids you didn't know would stop and ask you to show them your swaps.

My teachers were very hard on themselves. They kept writing 'Must do better' to motivate themselves!<laugh>

Used to love the dinosaur stickers, the packs had a wonderful aroma when you opened them.

Remember the footy stickers when the club badge was gold, much better than the .modern day tat. Getting swept away on a wave of nostalgia here.

The memory is a bit vague, however, I can remember some sort of stickers and cards, you had to scratch them and they gave off a scent. I can distinctly remember the coffee one, afraid it's a bit vague after that.

    Anyone else remember these ?
