In 21 seasons this century we have now been promoted six times <party> and relegated five times <wah>. Exciting times being a Canary supporter. In 80 years of league last century, minus the war years, we had exactly the same totals.

Too true. Unlike our country cousins, for whom the last 21 seasons
evokes memories of a film.....Dull and duller <laugh>

To be fair, they were the “best team in Europe” in 1666.

It will be interesting to see if McCallum is preferred to Quintilla next season. We paid £3m for him and he's Coventry's highest ranked player, ranking above 7 when playing at LB or RB, but he's also played DM and CM. Now aged 20 he will still count as U21 next season, so he wouldn't take up a squad place.

Quintilla has performed ok when called upon but I don't see him being a Norwich player next season. I would like to see a new CB ( the Celtic one?) , a combative, pacey midfielder (= expensive) and an upgrade on Hugill.

I’d almost certainly say we’ve seen the last of Klose, Zimbo, Stieps and probably Tetts. Vrancic might be offered another year maybe, still think he has something to offer in the Prem.

I was going to post the same tweet and see what people thought.

Fundamentally, all of those listed have been bit-part players this season, who you wouldn't expect to see increased playing time next season. I'd add Hernandez to the list too. Even if we're relegated at the first time of asking, I don't think it's likely that those players play a starring role in the 22/23 Championship season. I suspect whether the majority of those players stay/go will depend on whether we make a big money sale to fund a transfer overhaul. If Aarons goes for £30m and we can afford 2 CBs, 2 CAMs, a DM, etc as a result, then I think it makes sense to replace older, fringe players with younger options who are more likely to challenge/improve on our established first XI.

    Case for the defence:
Tettey, Zimmerman (and arguably Klose but I think that ship has sailed) are clearly leaders in the squad, in terms of mentality and work ethic. It feels like they really add to the squad dynamics and we know how important that is to Farke/Webber. Zimmerman isn't an expensive player for 4th/5th CB, Tettey was arguably our only effective DM last season.

Stiepermann appears to be over illnesses/injuries which prevented him showing his true ability in the last season or so, could push on and recapture that 18/19 form?
Vrancic: Of anyone outside our first XI, Vrancic is the player I want brought on when we're chasing a game. He has that spark to create something which really nobody else does, plus set-piece ability. If you look at our goals scored past the 85th minute since he joined, I bet he has a higher goal involvement than anyone. If he's prepared to have a bit-part role next season, I wouldn't be against him staying. I also wouldn't begrudge him a move, and would probably end up keeping an eye on whichever club he joined!

For me, keep Vrancic and maybe Zimmerman if the club are convinced he's capable of returning to proper fitness. If Tettey would take a coaching contract and stay registered as a backup option, I wouldn't be against that.

Stiepermann, Klose, Hernandez I struggle to see an argument in favour of keeping.

The only ones I would keep from that list would be possibly Stiepermann and Zimmerman but he missed most of the season and didn't prove his value In the Prem.

Zimbo doesn't look the same player after being assaulted at West Ham

Realistically we need to upgrade all of these guys no room for sentiment

I think Klose will stay in Switzerland and Zimbo will stay here. Stieps was less impressive in the PL last time and could be moved on. One of our weaknesses last year was the lack of PL experience though, so Tettey and/or Vrancic might be retained for that. It's been said that they have been offered new contracts so time will tell.

We have 23 senior players and 9 U21 players. If Stieps and or Quintilla leave that allows for 4/5 players coming in. The there's the question about Skipp possibly returning, so that could be another position to fill. We definitely need another CB unless Famewo and/or Omobamidele are deemed ready. The same applies to McCallum. If Skipp doesn't come back and Aarons leaves we need quality replacements and perhaps a new AM to replace Stieps.

I think I'd happily lose Klose, Zimmerman, Steiperman, Tettey & Vrancic on the proviso that the replacement is either better than their current level of performance or is a younger developing player who is near to their current level, but has potentially to be challenging for a starting 11 place in the next 18months.

Whilst I accept they may be able to add something in term of experience, leadership and team spirit in the dressing room I don't think this is something we're short of , DF has previously highlighted others in the squad who do this, but don't get much game time i.e. Hugill & McGovern and on the pitch in our starting 11 we have plenty of players that do this, Krul, Hanley, Gibson & McLean immediately come to mind.

I don't think the argument that they should be kept solely because they have leadership skills or PL experience is valid. We have plenty of both else where in the squad.

Of the players mentioned Vrancic is the only one that has got anywhere near challenging a current incumbent of a starting 11 place and depending on who leaves may be worth keeping.

Tettey should be kept on and given a coaching role although he seems a bit top laid back for management.

Totally disagree with this . We should employ the best coaches we can afford. Coaching is a key professional role, particularly in developing youngster, that requires a whole range of skills that can't be obtained or developed just through being a professional footballer. Coaching is a career in itself and it takes many, many years of coaching to get to a level where you can coach at this level. Tettey has provided good service to this club, but he has also been rewarded well. The club owes him nothing and to give him a coaching role, solely because fans (or directors) can't bear to see him go, totally undermines professional career coaches and in my mind everything DF, Webber and the club currently stand for.

If Skipp leaves we're left with the as yet unproven potential of Sørensen and Sitti at DM. Given the disappointment of Amadou at DM last season it would seem to be a big risk to let Tettey go. He's a useful back-up and a good player to bring on when we're trying to see a game out.

So why hasn't he been used to that effect this year ? Tettey is like an old pair of shoes that people can't bear to let go because they're so comfortable, but no longer fit for the purpose they were bought for

Agree, but I think it would be reasonable and nice for the club to offer Tettey some sort of scouting role on a short term contract and then getting him his coaching badges - everyone has to be a beginner and, who knows, he might end up being an excellent coach. If he's good for the dressing room and already doing some of that (who are we to know) then they will have a good judge of whether he can offer value.
