I'm a fifteen minutes drive to Hamilton(racecourse). There's a couple of excellent Indian restaurants over there.
The Bombay Cottage is superb. Can't get spiced onions down here for love nor money. Also Smith's restaurant in Uddingston is top notch. That blade of beef man. Quality.
Had a day in Milton Keynes a couple of years back. It appeared to have no sense of a town / city centre at all. Felt like an American frontier town, only with lots of glass. Apparently it’s population are the happiest in the UK, so cannot judge on the basis of one day.
I've never been, but Welwyn Garden City always sounded nice. I'm sure somebody can put my naivety to rest.
It depends bit which you're in, as it's just a bundle of villages joined together with roundabouts, but done better than they did with Stoke, so you can be in the Sutton bit or the Bransholme bit, if you see what I mean. It's 'okay' if you're in the right bit, but I'd prefer to be in a proper village.
If anyone has been, did they find out how come they dropped pronouncing only one of the w's? Elyn Garden City has a vibe to it.
Yes,I've been in the Bombay cottage, lovely food I didn't know that about the spiced onions? They all do them up here and depending on which restaurant you go too, some can be really 'hot',my wife loves them!!
Our lass loves her curries, it's one of the main disappointments that they don't do proper spiced onions here. So when she goes home or we go to visit, getting a curry is an absolute must. We had a go at making our own but apparently it just wasn't the same. Bizarre.
There was certainly no village feel to the part I was in, straight out of the train station and up a wide road with offices either side, but nothing indicating it was going anywhere interesting. Just shows that it’s easy to form an opinion based on very little actual knowledge, so happy to be corrected. Imagine living in a place named after economists though. It’s like living in Hancock Williamson. Could they not have used sports people or musicians?
Stevenage has a reputation for being modern and soulless, the new bit it probably is but, my brother in law and Mrs live not too far from there and we've had some great nights out in proper pubs in Stevenage Old Town - it really is a gem of a place, lots of independent shops and restaurants and proper boozers, what's not to like?. Highly recommend!
I won't bother, Aberdeen is the most depressing place I have ever been, apart from Bangor Maine in USA, Dundee IMO is not much better.
Milton Keynes is alright. Once you get your sense of direction. I do like the fact it has loads of public park access. There always seemed to be a lot of runners and cyclists out and about..
Runcorn - Avoid - like a scouser infested Luton. Chester - Pretty nice lived over in Chester for 18 months. It’s nearly as nice as Hull. Yarm up near Middlesbrough - that is probably it’s only redeeming feature. Dundee I liked apart from some bastard left me with a £2k car repair bill by crashing into my car in the hotel car park. No cctv. Aberdeen (The granite city) is great. I’ve spent time up their with relatives and working, quite an affluent place due to the oil. Canterbury was pretty nice and I’d recommend. Dominated by the cathedral and associated old buildings.
