He was leaving at the end of the season anyway - so this reconfirmation just sounds like damage control window dressing by the Glazers
All six need to be banned from the Champions League for the next 5 seasons. That would send out a really strong message to the whole of European Football
Be good if it all fell apart and all 12 clubs got sanctioned for their behaviour. Should actually be sanctioned for inviting Spurs along tbh, total joke that one. Although credit where credit is due, managing to come up with something more despised than VAR is an incredible act of creative stupidity.
Any punishment given out such as point deductions would only hurt the fans who united against the ESL. Punish the owners yes, but not the fans.
Rangers, not that I give a toss about them, had the whole club punished. I agree, not the fans fault, but it’s got to hurt the owners financially.
How stupid were the clubs involved not to anticipate the backlash. Weird to think about the lack of awareness and basic common sense there is at such a high level in football.
What an appalling capitulation. They didn't even have the ****ing courage of their convictions. An absolute joke all round. No doubt the FA/Premier League will bend over and welcome them all back like they haven't just spat in the football world's face. An absolute embarrassment from start to finish.
cba to trawl back through the thread but sure one of the lads posted that surveys/opinions taken previously had all returned a (roughly) 16% for 84% against figure...reckon i am not the only one thinking this was yet another ruse to try and get a bigger share of the tv money to 'tempt' them to stay put...still hoping the FA/EUFA/Anyone else can find a legal way to knack these owners, was it the real madrid owner who tried to say it was to save football?...more like get him more cash as he overspent trying to buy success.
An interesting complication to punishing the owners is that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are fan-owned. Presumably, the decision to join was made by the elected presidents. They will surely now be forced to stand down.
All English clubs have now withdrawn from the ESL. I find it incredible that the board and owners of these club could not see how strong the feelings would be from fans over these proposals. Arrogant and not fit to run an English football club!!
I’d normally hope there’s a massive backlash against the twats but the supporters played a huge part in this turnaround. So I just hope the tossers that thought they could jump ship go bankrupt.
This European Super League is like when you and your mates decide to go to Vegas for a weekend whilst all pissed in the biggest dive bar where you live and then reality bites when you’re sober and everyone starts to bail out.
I think this might be a massive blessing for the game. People say it’s not for the fans any more? The fans tore it down in less than 48 hours. Out game. Our communities. Our clubs. Credit to the fans of Chelsea and Liverpool, credit to Ceferin, looking the absolute opposite of Blatter and his kronies and absolute credit to Pep Guardiola who started trying to keep a lid on it but ended up speaking with all the passion of one of us. Credit to the other teams in the Premier League and to the real ‘super clubs’ of Europe of Porto, Benfica, Ajax etc. Credit to the pundits on Sky, and the BBC, who spoke with such passion it reminded you they too were once just lads who loved the or club and our game, they are fans too. No mistake, the fans did this, the game IS still ours. The clubs have to be punished, they were prepared to destroy the game. The owners need removed from several of them.
Bit surprised at the vitriol FSG are getting from Carragher and the likes. They've done wonders for that club in making them truly relevant at the top. He went as far as to say they have no future at the club. Have I missed something? I'd understand it from United/Arsenal whose owners have sent the clubs into a slide.
