Events of the past 48 hours have managed to obscure the very important midweek fixture facing us tonight. Welcome to the harsh and unforgiving world of football management, Ryan – and the very best of luck with it: you’re a Spur and you know you are! With all the stuff going on (not least at WHL) my head turned towards Leonard Cohen (yes, I know, I was that miserable!). So I took the chance to take a look at the news as well as the match. For 24 hours, my support for Spurs hung in the balance. It remains damaged. But I’ll try to get the best out of it while it’s there.

they were just some greedy w*nkers

and the players dared to speak out lots,
so the plan was found, but quickly lost -
there’s still hell to pay when the hooha stops:

We were Poch fans, and romantic,
but our Dan was going frantic
and the ENIC crew were crying, "Where's the cups?"
And the trophy shelf was naked
and it seemed we’d never make it -
a volcano that was waiting to erupt.
So we started then to stagger
slipping down the PL ladder
till our Poch’s style seemed sadly less sublime.
And I swear it happened just like this:
a misplaced pass, a glaring miss;
the fans who loved him budged and flinched,
and with a speed that made us wince
came CLOSING TIME!

So ENIC did their duty
but Mourinho’s not the remedy:
he was in it for the trophy haul
and I bit my tongue politely
there were some thought he’s a god (not me!) -
declaring, declaring, declaring that his style was good football.
So he managed Spurs and made a mess
and I’m glad he’s gone - there's nothing left
but sorrow and a sense of wasted time.
Now I feel I’ve seen the Spurs get wrecked
and I really care what happens next!
Feels like freedom (an escape from death!)
and what we have just seen, I guess:
HIS CLOSING TIME!

attacking play is truly not a crime!
And then Bale scores once (Son goes close twice) -
it’s a win for the Spurs as the Saints get sliced!
So the team head back to PL heights -
and we shall celebrate tonight -
Till CLOSING TIME!
