What's more embarassing? Signing up for it in the first place or that they are pulling out of this thing immediately. Grow a backbone. You must have been discussing this thing and working out the logistics for months, you knew what you were signing up for and must have known it wouldn't be popular. You signed up to it. And now your name is being dragged through the dirt by the wider football world you want to pull out and try and save face. **** off. Purely aimed at the clubs, the fans of the clubs involved have largely been fantastic to be fair.
I'm amazed that these people, who are very handsomely compensated to understand how football (and particularly the business of football) works, failed to anticipate the incredibly predictable consequences of their actions.
The current plot in my mind is that Arsenal are typically slow to react and get relegated as a result.
You've done really well! It looks like this whole thing demonstrates that once again, we have some pretty incompetent club management, judging by the 'sudden awareness' of Woodward and co that perhaps ESL not such a good idea! Fan power may be working? Naive thinking? We'll see.
Not sure exactly what punishment is required but it has to be big. I get that it seems harsh to punish the clubs as it isn't the fans fault - but they do points deductions for administration and that isn't the fans fault either. No way can we just allow them to waltz back in, release a "sorry, we got it wrong" statement and then get back to business.
If a conspiracy to steal the Crown Jewels was uncovered, and the perpetrators said “Ih, no, we weren’t actually going to do it, it was just an idea”, they wouldn’t get off lightly, would they?
Not even that, these f*ckers actually did it! They signed to leave. I hope this leads to major reform but I can't see that. I want the minimum to be a serious punishment that will genuinely hurt the 6 clubs rather than just a slap on the wrist
Twits on Twitter moaning because the Saints haven't made a statement. Gao is probably stuck in China and is probably not aware of what is going on, or even cares, perhaps? However just in:- At a meeting with the Premier League held earlier today, the club put on record its complete opposition to the plans for a breakaway Super League. The club echoes the sentiment of our supporters, and of fans around the world, that the plans are borne from a position of greed and a fear of true competition. We are a club that has experienced the rollercoaster of relegation and promotion through the football pyramid. We have also lived the fairy-tale of progressing from the third tier of English football to the Premier League and qualifying for European football on merit. Those experiences are what form the values of who we are as a club today - values that are totally at odds with what these proposals stand for. The club will do everything in its power to stand alongside the government, Premier League, governing bodies and those clubs who have the best interests of the game at heart to prevent these plans becoming a reality. A full statement from the Premier League on this issue is below: The Premier League, alongside The FA, met with clubs today to discuss the immediate implications of the Super League proposal. The 14 clubs at the meeting unanimously and vigorously rejected the plans for the competition. The Premier League is considering all actions available to prevent it from progressing, as well as holding those Shareholders involved to account under its rules. The League will continue to work with key stakeholders including fan groups, Government, UEFA, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA to protect the best interests of the game and call on those clubs involved in the proposed competition to cease their involvement immediately. The Premier League would like to thank fans and all stakeholders for the support they have shown this week on this significant issue. The reaction proves just how much our open pyramid and football community means to people.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha [inhales] Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha points deductions for all of them. we got -10 for administration, so what are we saying, -30? -40?
