You said something along the lines of you were sick of hearing from ex players complaining about the super league, who have taken fortunes for themselves from the game.
I don't see a problem with them voicing criticism of the super league, as they didn't do anything similar.
I thought you felt it was similar.

    Who's targeting the players?
Stan was targeting the ex players.

I don't mean Stan, I mean UEFA and FIFA who want to ban players whose employers have made this decision.
Stan's my top geezer, never critizing him!

here's a thought: Supposing the "big 12" decide to along with it. What happend if the players decide this isnt what they want and transfer requests start to go in? Kane who is always in the news as a potential transfer....might decide that for example, Leeds or Newcatsle are better for home as he wants to represent England. And if this new league does come in, are the players contracts still valid? That would be interesting seeing a player challenge the terms and conditions of his work contract?
The fans could revolt by ignoring the broadcasters but then there is a market in China, so maybe they have a say.
Bottom line, is these big 12 could ultimately go bust after receiving the initial money they are going to get. No fans to see them in the flesh.....players will get bored of playing same 12 clubs....just think of Scottish Premiership with no promotion or relegation. No more Leicester winning Premiership and qualifying for champions league.....

Ah, sorry. Lots of crossed wires today it seems.
Yeah, my biggest worry is that England will lose most of their starting 11.

That is a worry...but it will be the same for a lot of European countries. Could potentially level the playing field at international level, but only because the standard will drop across the board, which doesn't really appeal.

Oh, I see. My feelings weren’t quite as nuanced as that. Just finding the ‘disgust’ of ex players who have not been faced with the choice that current ones might have a little wearying. Someone like Marcus Rashford has a very difficult choice to make if this goes ahead - does he stick with the club which has nurtured him since he was a kid and made him a rich international, or ask to leave? I don’t think Jamie Carragher et al have really considered what they would have done in the same position at the same age with their professed love of their clubs.

The negative response from fans seems pretty universal, in Spain and Italy as well. And at last a current player speaks out:

REAL MADRID AND GERMANY MIDFIELDER TONY KROOS:

"Unfortunately we players don’t decide these things. We are just puppets of FIFA and UEFA. If there was a players’ union we wouldn’t play the Nations League or a Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

"These competitions are intended to absorb everything financially and squeeze players physically too. Everything doesn’t have to be more, faster and money."

I guess these clubs have figured out that they don’t need the revenue of packed grounds, or that, post pandemic, they can fill their stadiums with tourists.

I honestly can't see this happening, but if it does then all the teams should never be allowed to enter any domestic competition ever again. If they would at some point like to rejoin then they can start at the lowest level possible. It's a shambles.

Especially as, imo, England have their best squad for a generation.

They seem pretty determined and there are rumours of PSG, Bayern and Dortmund joining them.

Cut and pasted from Spuds home page (sorry if it has already been posted) #delusional

    Competition Format

    • 20 participating clubs with 15 Founding Clubs and a qualifying mechanism for a further five teams to qualify annually based on achievements in the prior season.

    • Midweek fixtures with all participating clubs continuing to compete in their respective national leagues, preserving the traditional domestic match calendar which remains at the heart of the club game.

    • An August start with clubs participating in two groups of 10, playing home and away fixtures, with the top three in each group automatically qualifying for the quarter finals. Teams finishing fourth and fifth will then compete in a two-legged play-off for the remaining quarter-final positions. A two-leg knockout format will be used to reach the final at the end of May, which will be staged as a single fixture at a neutral venue.

As soon as practicable after the start of the men’s competition, a corresponding women’s league will also be launched, helping to advance and develop the women’s game.

The new annual tournament will provide significantly greater economic growth and support for European football via a long-term commitment to uncapped solidarity payments which will grow in line with league revenues. These solidarity payments will be substantially higher than those generated by the current European competition and are expected to be in excess of €10 billion during the course of the initial commitment period of the Clubs. In addition, the competition will be built on a sustainable financial foundation with all Founding Clubs signing up to a spending framework. In exchange for their commitment, Founding Clubs will receive an amount of €3.5 billion solely to support their infrastructure investment plans and to offset the impact of the COVID pandemic.

Florentino Pérez, President Real Madrid CF and the first Chairman of the Super League, said: “We will help football at every level and take it to its rightful place in the world. Football is the only global sport in the world with more than four billion fans and our responsibility as big clubs is to respond to their desires.”

Backing the new European league, Andrea Agnelli, Chairman of Juventus and Vice-Chairman of the Super League, said: “Our 12 Founder clubs represent billions of fans across the globe and 99 European trophies. We have come together at this critical moment, enabling European competition to be transformed, putting the game we love on a sustainable footing for the long-term future, substantially increasing solidarity, and giving fans and amateur players a regular flow of headline fixtures that will feed their passion for the game while providing them with engaging role models.”

Joel Glazer, Co-Chairman of Manchester United and Vice-Chairman of the Super League, said: “By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid.”

Interesting point. A boycott by fans only works if enough do so. And to make it effective the broadcasters need to be boycotted as well including the beloved Sky. When they pull the plug the clubs will be demanding to be reinstated in their national competitions. No problem with that. They can start at the base of the pyramid like any other leaver. The owners can go off to the Far East and Qatar and play their version of the beautiful game in air conditioned bowls in the desert. I'm sure they''ll make bucket loads of money.

Both Klopp and Bielsa have been pretty clear they don’t like the idea and the Leeds team wearing ‘football is for the fans’ t shirts during warm up.

Never been a "Massive" fan but tonight I'd wouldn't be too upset if they put one over Liverpool tonight if only for the sole reason of stopping Liverpool jumping up to 4th in the league..........

It would be quite telling that the allegedly "Big 6" occupy 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th & 9th in the table..........
