Mourinho sacked by spurs, would be nice to think he stood up against the board, and this ridiculous super league, but probably not

As has been said elsewhere nothing more than diversion tactics by Spurs as an attempt to take the heat out of their decision to sign up to ESL......

Jose gets another huge pay off.......

Just as well, you have to wonder whether he's shot his bolt. He's a master at losing the dressing room

    Saw this on FB

    Dear Mr Hoos,

I would like to think that I am among a large majority of QPR fans when I express my gratitude towards you, Les Ferdinand, and the board at QPR for maintaining the club's integrity and standing firm in the face of what must have been a very tempting financial incentive, declining the invitation for Queens Park Rangers to participate in the new European Super League.

You have done the right thing for the club, football fans across the country and, the competition and game in general.

Meanwhile, I wonder if you could confirm the rumour I've heard that Brentford have submitted an application to join.

Looking forward to returning to real football next season.

    Kind regards

Football is a business now like it or not. For as long as subscribers pay to watch these matches on whatever channel/forum, decisions will be made to maximise profits.

Has anyone seen any comments from any players or managers from the clubs involved? I haven’t, it will be interesting to see how they play it. I’d like the views of Klopp, Guardiola and the Captain of England in particular. Klopp was pretty violently against a couple of years ago.

I am pretty sick of the already mega rich retired players now milking money from Sky and BT getting all holier than thou with their ‘disgust’.

    Fully agree with Gary Neville.

The idea is scandalous and only based on greed.

The owners are all hard-nosed businessmen used to getting what they want, a few thousand fans kicking off will not change their tune at all, Stan Kroenke has already proved that turning Arsenal into an also-rans cash-cow

Surely getting paid as much as you can during your limited career isn't the same as playing in a breakaway league?

Biggest downside is Rangers and Celtic fans now thinking they'll be able to join Premier League as there are 'vacancies'...

Not at all surprised - the ESL is in direct competition with both The European Championship and Europa League. Would be great for teams to get a leg up into the respective UEFA competitions and some useful coffers for them to challenge higher up the league.

Who knows there might even be an ESL2 ... then Sheffield United, West Brom and Fulham could get into CL.

All the FAs across UEFA must nip this in the bud and make it quite clear that any club who wants to play in a competition not affiliated to UEFA will be expelled from all other competitions and players will be ineligible to play in any UEFA/FIFA competition.

It'll be interesting to see who has the TV deal on this, Sky and BT almost certainly are not involved so I'd guess Amazon and Netflix would be the likely front-runners. I wouldn't rule out Chinese involvement either, there's a massive following throughout Asia. I reckon these clubs might happily forfeit home support for the global big bucks...

Not sure what you are getting at Col. I’m not blaming the players for whatever decisions they take, but I am interested in what they have to say for themselves. I notice Kieron Dyer and to an extent Lineker have come out with ‘they’re just employees, they have to play in any competition their employer says’ and Tuchel has been studiously neutral.

The argument that many players make for coming to the PL from overseas - best league in the world, best pay etc etc - will be the same for this breakaway league. If it happens wages may drop elsewhere. There are similarities with Packers cricket circus, although top professional cricketers in those days really weren’t paid well.

I was thinking the same before reading your comments, Sb.
What if say, Harry Kane says - but I want to play for England and puts in an immediate transfer request? How would Spuds react to that?
Additional, it is not the players who are causing this, so why should players be targetted?

I really hope this goes through and they crash and burn.
