They’re underestimating the strength of the fans with this. Your lot and United will be all over this.

Let’s not pretend that Liverpool can replace its entire revenue in one go by joining the ESL either though.

The entire narrative here seems to be, they’ll get what they want and everyone can just suck it up. How about no, and they can go and get ****ed.

I am not ignoring that point. We are in agreement on that point.

the prem is about the premier league trophy too and relegation but having NOTHING to play for but perhaps entry into a ****ty UEFA comp cos the top 6 have the prem sewn up does totally devalue the midtable. MAYBE it would finally challenge those teams to play a bit in the cups.

seeing the history of the european cup/CL since 1956 thrown out overnight is not exactly a nice thing either.

Maybe FSG saw the light when they realised that we might miss out on Champions League this season?

yes they need permission per the rules except its not that simple is it?

Notwithstanding the provisions of Article 27, the League may expel a Club from
membership upon a special Resolution to that effect being passed by a majority of
not less than three-quarters of such members as (being entitled to do so) vote by
their representatives or by proxy at a General Meeting of which notice specifying the
intention to propose the Resolution has been duly given.

B.8. Any Club intending to resign as a member of the League may do so only with effect
from the end of the Season upon which it is intended that such resignation is to take
effect provided that it shall give notice in writing to that effect to the Comp

Article 27 requires all 14 of the other clubs to line up but the special resolution above requires 15 clubs to pass. guess what? there's only 14 not invited to join.

this is a mess where no amount of threats is going to fix. once all the bluster subsides there is a hard negotiation to be done.

    nope.
    https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-fsg-premier-league-glazers-19086446

we need to view this stuff in the light of the other proposals that were made last year.
    • The Premier League will be reduced from 20 teams to 18 teams.

    • The nine longest-serving Premier League clubs -- currently the so-called Big Six plus Everton, Southampton, and West Ham -- would be afforded “long-term shareholder status”, granting them unprecedented power.

    • The one-club-one-vote rule would be abolished, with power handed over to the “long-term shareholders”.

    • The “long-term shareholders” would be able to pass any changes with just six votes, including being able to veto a new owner taking over a rival club.

    • A £250 million package will go to the EFL to compensate for the loss of revenue during the pandemic.

    • There will be a £100 million package sent to the FA to cover its losses for coronavirus -- which is slated to help the women’s game, non-league and grassroots football.

    • There will be change in revenue sharing, with the top six earning a bigger slice of the Premier League pie.

    • The League Cup and Community shield will be abolished.

    • Two sides will automatically be relegated from the Premier League and two will automatically be promoted from the Championship. The third-placed Championship side and third-from-bottom Premier League side will then play in a promotion/relegation playoff.
    Plus there will be:

    • Uniformity in the Championship, League One, and League Two, reducing the number of professional teams from 92 to 90.

    • A new women’s professional league independent of the Premier League or FA.

    • Stricter Financial Fair Play controls.

    • A cap on the price of away tickets at £20.

    • A change to the loan system -- 15 players would be allowed out on loan with up to four allowed at one club.

    • A later August start to allow for more preseason tours, friendlies and a summer Premier League tournament.
    ------------------------------------

do you see the theme? same power grab different angle.

The PL, UEFA, FIFA, FA Brought this on themselves IMO.

Before the PL was introduced, you could go the game for a fiver, £60 now.
Kit was about £25 (if that), £100 now.
Watch it on terrestrial TV. £100 a month now.

Football was already greedy as it is.

This Super League will co-exist with the domestic leagues one or the other I feel. People will just accept it.

And let's not forget that all clubs are self serving. You had the clubs at the bottom of the PL voting to null and void the season because they wanted to avoid relegation. You had the smaller teams this season voting against introducing 5 subs which was passed.

UEFA announced that the cL would be expanded to 34 teams - great, then we get to see more sh*t unknown teams in the tournament(!)

Liverpool FC belong to the local community, to the city of Liverpool , to the people of Liverpool, to the fans. The American owners are just guardians. They cannot in league with foreign owners of clubs like City, MU, Chelsea, Arsenal change football without the approval of the fans and the community.

it is good that the politicians are supporting the football authorities. Fingers crossed the greed of these foreign owners will be defeated.

with respect inflation between 1991 and now is massive.

yes the cost of entering on an expensive ticket in the prem is high compared to standing but you can still go some places "cheaply" . Lets also not pretend that its a universal robbery. In germany you can go to a game for a very low price. again did the government or anyone care? nope.

Kits? again how cares, they were always expensive and knock offs were always present.

People were willing in 1992 to support sky.

    reap what you sew.

sorry but this is factually not true.

Its a business sold by a cheslea fan who was imposed on one set of yanks by RBS to another set of yanks.

also they just did change football without asking anyone.

LFC is not a fan owned club. Its owned in its entirety by FSG. sorry.

thats the hard facts of it, nobody asked anyone if this was a good idea.

From what I've heard so far, and it isn't much, no real supporters want this.

I would like to see what the plans are (if there are any) for the ESL to pump money into the pyramid and also how to help manage the spiralling costs for fans (match tickets, kits etc). If they can offer any benefits like this, then this could get pushed through ..

The new CL reforms are pathetic as well - expanding the number of participants, increasing the number of games. UEFA just want to make more money.

The only people who suffer are the fans. We are already suffering which is why I'm agnostic to the idea of the ESL because it means corrupt organisations like UEFA etc get what they deserve ...
