The PL can’t refuse this if the 6 clubs are intent on walking away from their domestic leagues by default. They’re essentially saying “We are going to play in this league whether you like it or not, you do what you gotta do”. Like it or not, United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal prop the whole thing up and if they walk there’s **** all left but an English version of the Scottish league which will devalue to nothing over night, putting almost every other club at risk financially. The PL have shafted their silent stakeholders (the fans) for too long and this is their pay back. Big Bank Take Little Bank. Sad day.
I think its all a con basically. What they are proposing is a league which isnt too dissimilar to UEFA's new Champions League format. The new UEFA Champions League proposal is semi enclosed. If, for example, Liverpool finished 8th they would still qualifiy due to their past Champions League success, and West Ham, who finished 4th, would lose out. Basically wiping out the competitive nature of our league competition. That in itself would have been a scandal. I believe that this Super League proposal has basically popped up so that the Champions League changes look less radical and self preserved. Its all set up so that it seems that everybody wins. UEFA stop the Super League, Hurrah for UEFA! Big clubs negotiate a Champions League where they are guaranteed entry every season, basically a Super League in all but name, where they still hold the majority of the cards. And football fans from all clubs throughout the pyramid are lulled into thinking that the disaster of the Super League has been averted when in fact the new Champions League is basically a slightly watered down version of it. Therefore I wouldnt be surprised that UEFA, Premier League etc. and the big clubs are in cahoots. The bottom of it all is that the football hierarchy want to slap the rest of the footballing world. The rest of the football world will not put up with a slap. They refused to be slapped. So the big clubs threaten to punch them hard instead. So ourselves as fans and the rest of the clubs say 'Oh erm......actually, we best settle for a slap instead.' And we all just move on.........
I still think the European Cup goes ahead by the way, I’d say it’ll rebrand from CL and Europa will almost certainly die as a result, which is a joke of a competition anyway.
If this Super League goes through, how many do you think would be in attendance at your first Super League home game, lets say against Real Madrid? And how many of those would be genuine fans?
Absolutely none. The real fans would blockade every square foot of access into Old Trafford. I’d be genuinely surprised if Woodward’s house isn’t a pile of ash by the weekend.
My club and maybe Liverpool at a push should be taking all of the heat for this by the way, because the simple fact is, if United stood firm and said no, this never gets off the ground. Not being arrogant, it’s true, without United it doesn’t happen.
I hope Roman gets kidnapped by Putin's special forces agents and ends up in the Gulag taking hot dicks to the throat.
I support Sunderland, so I have no idea what its like to support a club who play regular European football. But If I did support a Man U or a Chelsea id like to think that the Champions League would be like a nice welcome break from the cut and thrust pressures of the Premier League. Like I would rather my club win the Premier League once than the Champions League 3 times. The Premier League is where its at, the Champions League like a nice distraction, a bonus. Are you genuinely gutted when you get knocked out by a club who you have no rivalry with? What hurts more, a defeat to Bayern Munich or a defeat to West Brom? For me this Super League would be like taking a hard working, fighting, toughened old soldier out of the trenches and placing him behind a desk 15 miles from the front.
Don’t agree with that. The self appointed ‘Big 6’ are banking on that leverage and obvs think they can do as they like. They’ve got a shock coming imo, I think the PL will **** them clean off if they refuse to back down on this, the stakes are too high now. The PL would survive as would the football pyramid, it’d just have to cut its cloth as TV revenues dropped. These self appointed elites can’t achieve what they want without having both PL income and this nonsense closed shop European midweek knockabout ****. So they’d be cutting off their nose to spite their face and they’d also go backwards financially. That’s before we even get to the fans.
That's exactly is how it is. The league is the be all and end all for United fans, European football is absolutely secondary. have had some great times in European competitions and at matches but the champions league is now just a bit meh, and has been for quite a while. This European league will just like a bunch of friendlies to make money, like the pre season 'tournaments' they put on in America or Asia, with some pretend competition thrown in. I'd rather nail my knackers to the nearest skirting board to be absolutely honest. Wouldn't even think of paying to watch one of the games. Dreadful.
Genuinely don't think they're arsed about fans in the ground. If the pandemic has proved one thing it's this - Football (at the elite level) can survive without fans in the ground: it can't survive without TV. Even before the pandemic, have you seen the attendances in Italian football? How the **** is Juventus one of the richest clubs in the world? Clue - it's not due to season-ticket sales.
