I don’t want to be negative but can’t stop a feeling of it not being so much as under performing now , but that we were over performing in the good run . In the run , there was a feeling of players dying for us , but that’s sandwiched between the accusations of couldn’t care less now and similar ones when losing those dreadful home games and Shrewsbury away . Was the good run no more than an extended “ new manager “ syndrome. Just another thought

How could someone possibly think we will beat Hull? They will tear us to shreds.

Something that you may well not understand, Wolfy, but it might be 'cos he's a Sunderland supporter, like most of us on here, and we nearly always start the build up to a match in a positive mood . . . . we certainly try to be positive :emoticon-0105-wink:

When I see on here that people are saying our players are not playing to get promoted because they will not get into our Championship squad, I can see a big flaw in this reasoning.

These same players will also be the ones who we get rid of and they will not be playing in our ‘new’ squad as we go for promotion (if we don’t go up this season)

Whichever league we are in, at least half this failing squad will be released.
These players, who some say don’t want promotion, will be away no matter where we end up.

Fwiw, I thought we didn’t deserve to lose yesterday (or v Charlton)
    It was an improved performance.

Another thing, the 5 goals for the 3 defeats were all a bit unlucky with 2 x own goals, a Wyke being held goal and the substitutes farce goal.
We’ve also been a bit unlucky generally and hopefully it will turn and we will get the lucky bounce or loose balls. We did get away with McFaj yesterday though.

It hasn’t helped that these 3 defeats have had top class performances by the opposition’s defence and goalies who, on these performances against us, look at least a division higher, but we all know they don’t play that good all the time.

It looks like 2 of the players not good enough for our team will be playing in higher divisions than us next season, Honeyman and Mumba. Possibly Embleton as well if Blackpool go up and they want to keep him (as we do with Dion and Jonesy)

Somehow it feels less stressful now that we know we are not going to get an automatic place but it will start over again if we manage to keep in the play-offs.

    Fingers crossed.

I think the difference is one person is being realistic and the other is a Sunderland supporter <laugh>

As you say mate, it could be that we've returned to normal, but I don't think it was an extended new manager bounce, because he didn't start too well. The run started quite a few games after he had come in.

If there's one thing that gives me hope, it's that of the clubs currently occupying the play off places, we more than matched Blackpool (apart from the goal), in terms of possession and chances created and we bossed Pompey at their place. I admit, Charlton is a bit of a worry.

Realistic has become the refuge of the constantly negative / pessimistic poster
If people were truly "realistic" they would see things from both sides.
not constantly roll out negative crap then when challenged say I'm only being realistic.
Worse still they try and normalize it as the default position
and mock anyone who dares to have an optimistic outlook as if they were deluded.
"I'm not being negative I'm only being realistic" No you're being negative and pessimistic.

That's not to say they are always wrong
But for me I'll chose a bit of optimism every time as the saying goes
"In the long run the pessimist may be proven right, but the optimist has a better time getting there"

A small point but any Sunderland fan who has just watched us take 1 point from the last 12 with one match being against the bottom club Wigan and then saying we are going to beat Hull aren’t optimistic or pessimistic they’re bloody deluded.

while i agree with you about being upset about that **** show, i think you are speaking from the heart not the head, we still have a few matches to go, before that scenario can cut in so stay strong mate remember KLD wants promotion as well and he won't stand idly by and see us throw it away

Like I said there are always two sides
Thats one side of the argument.
But the other side is that we outplayed Blackpool who are second top in the form table for the last 10 games.
Yes we lost. But of all our games lately this was one we probably deserved to win. For the first time in a while controlled the game.
Hull are top for a reason but certainly not unbeatable.
It would be delusional to think we will be playing in the champions league in 4 years time. But certainly not beating bloody Hull.

Well put mate. People are just getting frustrated and upset because we were on the verge but look to have blown it.
Can't blame people to be honest but it can get very divisive.
Cold light of day we weren't world beaters because we only lost 1 in 14 and like wise we aren't a basket case because we lost the last 3.
Just hoping we can pull our socks up and put a bit of a run together so we hit the playoffs on a high

Hopefully he offers them some sort of incentive, as half the players know they are getting peddled in the summer if we go up.

I think maybe they might have already done that when KLD came in. Not itk but it would make sense.

Some say that the new manager bounce doesn’t exist. Any improvement is just returning to the norm after a run of bad results. Managers are only ever sacked after bad results, not good ones.

As a few have pointed out we were winning without playing well, now we’ve lost a few based on similar performances (discounting the Portsmouth and Wigan outliers)

if we were a ‘good’ championship capable team our ‘norm’ would be higher and we wouldn’t need to worry like this.

its possible we are good enough to beat hull and then any sort of return to the norm since LJ it’s still possible we make them wobble a bit.
