My Dad always says Trevor Ford was the best centre forward he saw for us, but that if Cloughie didnt get injured he would have gone on to be one of the best anywhere
Oh WOW....what a great thread/question kidda ! to get it down to two players - but only based on the remaining fixtures to get us a promotion spot.... - yeah...How th do we do this?.... Hmmm, the coolness of playes like Shaun Elliott, Tony Towers and Devey Watson and Steve bould in defence. MF - Bracwelll or M'Villa Forwards - SKP - The mighty Q .......conclusion - M'Villa - Davey Watson
Didn't see Ford play but I'm sure Cloughie had a better goals per game, I don't think anyone is near his stats
Yes mate he did. Cloughie goals per game is daft, something like 50 in 60 if I remeber. Ford was about 70 in a hundred or something. Both are unbelievable. Wish I could have seen both, but I am child of the late 70s early 80s. Still had some players I remember with pleasure mind.
M'Villa is a great shout. I had McCann and they were similar. I had forgetten big Yann which is probably me showing my age. I could imagine them 2 being unplayable together.
Think Sorensen is the best keeper I've seen play for us tbh, would love to have someone like him between the sticks again. And I've always thought if you have a good keeper and a good striker, you can get away with other parts of the team being a bit ****.
Tricky one! In theory we really need a centre back but I'm loathe to use one of my picks on one. A top class striker and a midfielder who can get forward wouldn't go amiss though. Controversial but I'll go Phillips and Reyna
mvilla...he helped the defence no ends before and he would do it without breaking sweat in this league. quinn above SKP for me, he could find space against premier league defenders and some of his goals if scored by some overseas chappie would still be raved about by the pundits, SKP needed more 'help' i think where quinn could go it alone, best i have seen as target man.
Some people have picked Dave Watson , and I understand why, at the same time it resurrects a theory I had about Dave, magnificent in big games no doubt and the cup run personified this, however he did seem to fall away in mundane league affairs, in essence I am saying he was a wee bit Jekyll and Hyde. A bit off topic maybe but a subject of interest to a tangential thinker. Anyone else out there
Phillips and Quinn. The rest of the team could be absolute horseshit. As long as they could lob a pass onto Quinns head, the rest would look after itself.
I only saw him play from 73 onwards before he went to Man City. Perhaps there is a case to move the centre forward to centre back
Just chatting to my dad about this thread and he said exactly the same! Phillips and Summerbee for me
Craig Gordon & Lee Clarke Although we are crying out of a leader so Kevin Ball or Steve Bould needs to be given a spot somewhere
