Off Topic Spurlock’s Ramadan Diary 2021

I like ‘em. I get why they’re a Ramadan thing, but I’d happily eat them occasionally all year round tbh.

First disaster today. Maids didn't wake up in time to get my food ready so ended up having to rush down a bowl of granola topped with banana and a handful of dates. Apparently Muhammad used to be able to fast a full day after a few dates but I reckon I might be struggling later.

Think the advantage of meat or fish in the morning is it stays in the stomach longer, being digested there, so you don't feel as hungry. Carbohydrates fill you up when you eat them but don't hang around in the stomach long as they are digested in the mouth and intestine.

 

They already started with that Ramadan bantz...lol

Drinks out of a can/plastic bottle just aren’t as good as having a cold drink out of a glass bottle btw.

 

Lovely day outside. Going on another walk with Skye and then I'll have some porridge and banana when I get back. Followed by a big fat spliff and a huge mug of coffee. Thoughts with all those participating in Ramadan. Mad bastards lol x

 

Never tasted a Date before, but might start eating them occasionally throughout the day, yanno while savouring the toffee taste throw a thought in Spurlys hungry direction.

 

Thoughts and prayers with Jakarta's maid. Hope she finds a new job soon.

 

Superseded bread toasted, lurpak and loads of apricot jam....

Irish fruit bread, olive spread and St Dalfour Strawberry jam (no added sugar).

Washed down with water and a cup of tea.

No, I should have said, not toasted. I use to with other fruit breads, but come to realise it tastes better just as it is, mainly because an Irish loaf is packed with fruit.

 

Don't think I've ever had Irish fruit bread. Is it anything like Soreen

Most supermarkets do it at £1.50 a loaf. Sometimes on offer for a quid.

 

I'll give it a try, I like the sound of it.

You've also reminded me I haven't had Dundee cake for ages. Might pick up some of that at the same time.

Yeah it is quite sweet, but it's defo bread not cake, it's got more fruit in than all the others i've tried. I like all fruit, whether it be sultana's, raisins, cherries, I'm not fussed. They must chuck preservatives of some description in it though, because the bread normally has something like a 2 week shelf life on it, not that it lasts me two weeks.

 

You're man's man, you can handle it better than us girlies, go Spurly go...

 

Haven’t eaten yet, went straight to the allotment to dig some furrows for planting spuds.

Worked up quite an appetite now though. Bacon and broccoli omelette, grilled asparagus, bit of salad, pot of tea coming up.
