Get him back in the side ASAP!!! I fail to see any reasons why he shouldn’t be at least on the bench. One of the few game changers we have which he has proved on many occasions. Very odd that we are bringing players like McFadzean and Leadbitter on as impact subs when we are getting beat, when we have players like Maguire rotting away in the reserves. LJ needs to swallow his pride and put the team first.
Another player who seems to become a world beater the longer he doesn't play for the first team. Although he does have qualities and offers something different, he doesn't do enough for me. When he has come on as a sub, he's made little impact on the performance and the result.
Won the free kick in the build up to Mcgeady’s goal against Oxford. Scored the equaliser against Crewe. His set pieces are brilliant as well, the amount that went to waste last night was pathetic. He offers a lot more than the majority of our bench last night, needs to be involved.
Too few and far between for me. Going on what you've said - Scowen won the free kick for McGeady's goal against Peterbrough. There's more to playing football than just whipping free kicks and gaining free kicks. He just doesn't do enough work when he doesn't have the ball for me and I would never even contemplate calling him "King"
I'm not a massive Maguire fan but I thought against Lincoln in the semi final and against Crewe he certainly made a difference. Shame it appears he has been snubbed as good impact sub.
if he is 'on the ball' so to speak he would be first name down for me, unfortunately he tends to have more 'off the ball' games, i just think if he put that extra 10% in he certainly would make a difference...having said that, i would struggle to name a single player who has been 100% consistent, there will obviously be some bad games along the way of course but we really do struggle to find even half a dozen putting any real effort into each game.
Nah, another one to wave good riddance to in the summer. “King” ffs. He’s been part of our ****test ever team for 3 seasons. Charlie Hurley is the king, this Scotch waster is not fit to be mentioned in the same breath.
Yet another player who turns into a world beater the less he is in the team. The reason he is not playing is probably down to his **** attitude - hes basically coasted in his time here. Theres a ****ing reason this kid has never made it further than league one - hes a lazy tosser who plays 1 in 4 or 5 games then goes back into coast mode.
Hes hardly a King is he. There must be a reason why he's not being involved. If we're relying on him to get promoted id be very worried.
If you get the good Maguire turning up then yeah at least on the bench if not starting but he's wildly inconsistent and it's not acceptable for me. Seems like we've got a similar situation with him that we had with Parky and McGeady where Johnson has identified an attitude problem hence him having to play with the under 23s. Maguire could play in the playoff final and score a hat trick of screamers or he could be an anonymous waste of space, too much of a risk at the business end of the season. Got to at least play lads who are up for it and trying even if they do make mistakes at times.
Maguire is a player that has never played at a level which his ability would seem to merit, but its not inconsistency as such, its the way he plays the game. He is a bit of a lad a con. man, certainly an entertainer and fascinating to watch. But there is and always will be one King at Sunderland, and it aint him.
As has been said the name King is way over the top. Makes me shake my head when I see it. Was it a fanzine that came up with it? As to Maguire he isnt for me I am afraid, certainly not as a starter. I could potentially see him as a sub but I think the likes of Diamond have more to offer. In my opinion Maguire slows the game down in areas where it needs speeding up. He lacks pace to play out wide and isnt a centre forward. Maybe a 10 but I am not convinced he sees things quick enough to play there. I also never get the impression he wants to be on the pitch either really, he always looks miserable and moody - in my experience that can rub off. He has talent and is capable of flashes of brilliance no doubt. Whether that is enough to get him a squad place I dont know because I am not convinced he does it enouhh and like O say when I watch him I dont think he wants to be here. What we really need now, after last night, is players who will show leadership and take responsibility on the pitch. I mean leading by example, not just shouting and balling.
there is no doubting he has had some good games for the club, but i agree with you and Clocky he has not impressed me enough to warrant a return and unless he can convince LJ in training i really cant see it happening for him
He just doesn’t do it often enough for me. He can look a million dollars one day then utter gash the next. Johnson will see him every day in training. Clearly he is not showing enough to warrant even a place on the bench.
Agree with most you’ve said on this thread.bolded that bit because his set pieces are sometimes excellent. 1 in 4 I’d say. Although that’s better than we were on Tuesday I suppose (0 in 12 wasn’t it?!!!) All in all though, he’s not consistent enough to start! Much like others have said Also wonder if the McGeady thing has any impact on him. Him and Geads both pictured and had a falling out. He went, cap in hand, to the manager and McGeady didn’t. Now Geads is flavour of the month I wonder if there’s something we don’t know. (COMPLETELY speculative that!)
Calling anybody king when King Charlie is still with us just shows embarassment ignorance and no respect to the greatest centre half the world has ever seen. The KING is alive. Long live the King
