I wouldn't be at all surprised if a new ground isn't part of the regeneration plan. The current Portman Road site, with its central location, is ripe for redevelopment and must be pretty valuable in those terms.

Except doesn't the council own it, not the club?

The last figure I could find is that they pay £110,000/ year rent for the ground. If all the maintenance is included into that figure it probably isn't a bad deal for the club as it stands.

I have just read the story of Onels' journey to Guatamala to represent Cuba. What an ordeal.

If I remember correctly though, Ipswich Council's recent and loudly publicised espousal of the "15 Minute City" concept didn't make any mention of Premier League football! Let's see if the new owners now try to buy the ground, and if they do, what they propose to do with it.

A closed shop, then? And without French or German teams? Sounds like a really bad idea. It can only be the money that would draw teams to join. Uefa will fight tooth and nail against this. I wonder what the Super League's ultimate goal really is, because I don't see it as being much more than a curiosity as it stands now.

Love him or loathe him but Gary Neville is massively against this, and says so in no uncertain terms. Even suggests Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal should have immediate points reductions that relegate then to the Championship. So they want all the Sky money, and they want all the European cup money as well. They sicken me, UEFA and national FAs have to stand up to them and expel them from national competitions if necessary.

Here's how the PL might look after the holier than thou have departed.
And I agree with Superman on final placings (though you'd have to fancy Everton, West Ham and Leicester)

I'm not sure there's a good outcome to this... It's a ****-show if this happens with the big boys doing their own thing but, if UEFA and EPL/FL stand up to them and deduct points or kick them out, they'll be happy (and I suspect hoping) to expand their own comp into a bigger overall league and cup set up. TV funds are the main income and once again they'll have the lions share. Doesn't bode well either way for smaller clubs or fans.

They are not, at least voluntarily, leaving the domestic leagues Cromer. This will be a new, mid-week league, replacing the European cup.

So they wish to be able to continue to dominate in their own domestic league and also have a cartel to play in Europe every season at the expense of occasional qualifiers such as Leicester a few years back.
At least German and French teams have given this scheme the one-fingered salute, for which I applaud them.
This is financial muscle overriding footballing ability and to me, that sucks for the future of the game we know and love.

Every single supporter group has condemned this, everyone within football has too - it's an exercise in greed from the owners.

German clubs might resist thanks to the 51% rule (with the exception perhaps of Leipzig), but I expect PSG will join once the backlash settles down.

I really hope the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A stand firm and do kick the clubs out of their domestic leagues as they are threatening to. This is surely just a step towards the breakaway league they want anyway, so let them go now rather than trying to cling on. Use it as an opportunity to reform the Premier League to actually benefit football in this country, even if the size of the pot is reduced.

As evidenced on TV this morning the fans of those 6 clubs are deeply against it. The purpose is to guarantee those clubs European football even if they don't deserve it. At the moment Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal would all fail to qualify, but in the 'Super League' they would all qualify even if they were relegated from the PL.

Their own fans complain that it would remove the passion of qualification. They would know that their club would qualify regardless of how it does in the league. Super League would just be about the biggest clubs, not the best clubs that year. I agree that if this sterile success is what they want they should form their own league leave the PL. Good riddance.

Wow indeed. Not a great fan of Jose, but admire him for that. Obviously 'money, money, money in a rich man's world' is more important to Levy and co.

BBC just say he was sacked due to results, but all the comments do not buy it!

Mourinho getting sacked means he will probably pick up several £million compensation. That’s probably the 3rd/4th time this had happened in the past few years (Chelsea, Man U and Spurs there might be others) so he is making quite a few bob from being sacked. Nice little earner?
